C.C. Barton commented on Nels johnson's blog post Saint Louis Art Fair, Clayton, Missouri—A Biggie
"Ha ha...right Nels, sorry.  Agree completely.  It was the best show of my career the first time I did it. At the end of the show I ordered a big fat steak and a bottle of Cab room service (I had no friends to go out to celebrate…"

"Yes, Bernard, I agree.  "Copies."  Clear. Succinct. Truthful. Unambiguous.   And it will never catch on."

C.C. Barton commented on Nels johnson's blog post Saint Louis Art Fair, Clayton, Missouri—A Biggie
"Bernard,  "prints" will always be a confusing term as it applies both to works such as original, hand-pulled etchings and mechanically reproduced copies of an original work, generally worth only the paper it is printed on, but many…"

Julie K Koleszar replied to C.C. Barton's discussion Cost of shipping work to galleries - any better ideas?
"As a Gallery Owner, this question is one I’ve not found a good answer for! My best advice is to talk to the Gallery about which pieces we can honestly think will sell, not pieces we are in the fence about. I do not want something shipped to me…"

Karen Salem replied to C.C. Barton's discussion Cost of shipping work to galleries - any better ideas?
"When i owned a gallery in Austin I used an insured professional art delivery service that was a wonderful time and money saver because they come to you with moving blankets and pick up the art and place it in safe racks in a big truck and deliver it…"

"Rick, We're a lazy bunch sometimes.  Why don't you provide a clickable link to your website so we won't have to find it on our own?"

C.C. Barton replied to Chris Bohannon's discussion How to level my tent
"Mine shims could work.  I used to use them at the Park City Utah show which was notorious for the setup along the long hill of its main street.   Mine shims are like regular wood shims only very thick - about 2" if I remember."

C.C. Barton replied to TC Crumpton's discussion Including tax in price?
"On the other hand.... I've been at high end shows (Sausalito was one) where wealthy clients/collectors roam the aisles with pockets full of hundreds and fifties to try to use as a bargaining chip to get cash deals. I lost an $800 sale because…"

C.C. Barton replied to TC Crumpton's discussion Including tax in price?
"Hey Chris, I've done the same - many times.  I don't ever discount the prices for my work (a very slippery slope imo) so offering to pay the tax is clean - gives the customer satisfaction that they've gotten a 'deal,'…"

C.C. Barton replied to TC Crumpton's discussion Including tax in price?
"If you do shows in multiple states, that would mean you're going to have to change your prices for every show.  So much for simplifying your bookkeeping. Much better to be clear to the customer what is your price and what is the tax. Trust…"

"Hi Tania, It's still available, but I hadn't thought about shipping it.  I don't have a box that it would fit in and I'm not sure how a carrier would ship it without damaging it.  CC"

Best show ever and why
Saint Louis Art Fair - Clayton ...several years ago - Most money and fastest sales...pure art show nirvana.
Worst show ever and why
I have a mental block about this, so the name of the show eludes me...but it was a small show in east Texas many years ago and was so hot and humid I thought I would pass out...and of course there were no buyers out for that kind of punishment. Nada...zip.

I never had to leave a show...for any reason.

Anyone have lodging recommendations for Lakefront in Milwaukee?

Posted on January 25, 2018 at 11:48am 2 Comments

I've done this wonderful show in the past and was really happy to have received my invitation for this year.  In the past I've stayed at County Clare Inn & Pub because of its close proximity to the show and also, very importantly, because of the restaurant within. It's a great place to stay, but pricey.

Because I'm doing very few shows at this time (rotator cuff surgery upcoming later this year) I thought I'd ask around for less expensive lodging suggestions from people who've…

Where to get Tru Vue Framing Glass in Santa Fe, NM

Posted on November 1, 2017 at 5:15pm 20 Comments

I've just relocated to Santa Fe from Colorado and no longer have delivery of framing glass to my studio in Santa Fe.  This is critical for me as I frame my own work for sale and to ship to galleries.

The only vendor listed on the Tru Vue website in my area was Larson-Juhl, but they don't create accounts if you're not a brick and mortar storefront.

If any of you New Mexico artists who also frame work know of a resource for Tru Vue framing glass, I would appreciate you…

2015 Bellevue Art Museum July show - Review wanted for 2D

Posted on February 8, 2016 at 6:15pm 10 Comments

I've done the BAM show several years running in the past, but was juried out in 2015.  The last time I did it was 2014 and the energy, especially in the evening, was way down.  They don't sell beer and wine for customers to walk around with and the music they provided was inexplicably placed inside the shopping mall with chairs for people to sit in there and listen to the music!  This was, of course, of no benefit to the artists.

I just received my acceptance for 2016 and…

Does anyone have any experience with Queeny Park in St Louis?

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 12:19pm 2 Comments

I've been on the hunt for a few good indoor or panels-only shows to do.  I came across the Queeny Park show in St Louis - apparently they have one in the Spring and one in the Fall.  I'd never heard of it, but have always done well at shows in the St Louis area and wondered if anyone has done this show or has information from anyone they know who's done it.  Thanks!
