C.C. Barton replied to Wendy Pobanz's discussion Hiring Set Up Help
"Hi Tina, This is CC - I already did, in detail.  It's the third post down from the top.  Nancy may have something different and it would be worth looking at her example as well."

C.C. Barton replied to Wendy Pobanz's discussion Hiring Set Up Help
"I do the same thing, Nancy, but I hold all the money until the show and break-down is over - unless they ask for a cash advance on the total."

C.C. Barton replied to Wendy Pobanz's discussion Hiring Set Up Help
"Hi Wendy, I've done it many times through Craigslist.  The more specific you can be, the better.  After I posted my craigslist ads, I would have to shut it down in about ten minutes because of the deluge of responses.  This one…"

C.C. Barton replied to Jessica Curning-Kuenzi's discussion where to sign and number matted photographic prints
"I know the shows require it for photographs, but it's a silly practice as numbering was originally intended for mediums with truly limited editions where a printmaking plate of one type or another would wear down with use.  However, there…"

C.C. Barton replied to Cassie Beyer's discussion Tips for Pricing? Rounding to the nearest $10?
"I would agree with Greg and the others.  I think it's a bad idea.  Pricing your work to end with a 9 could take the art patron's mindset from that of being in a gallery setting to an aisle in Target."

C.C. Barton replied to Dave Buerger's discussion Velcro-type gloves
"Velco gloves, if they made them, would give you good grip, but could be a pain when trying to release them If I were you, I'd go to the hardware store and buy a pair of cotton garden gloves that have the rubber on the finger and palm parts. I…"

C.C. Barton replied to Alan Potter's discussion Propanels advice
"Propanels makes a set of panels with telescoping legs called the Space Saver.  You could set them at whatever height you needed (dropping them down just enough to use the 20" extender for the indoor shows) and you can also use their velcro…"

C.C. Barton replied to Fletcher Dean's discussion Changing mediums and booth shot
"Yes.  Entirely different medium.  You need a different booth shot for that if it's a juried show."

C.C. Barton replied to Heide Rainey's discussion Lighting - please help with this confusing topic
"I use the 4' light bars (you can join two of them together in the middle) from Home Depot that take individual LED spot fixtures that you can move anywhere on the bar that you need them. So I use a set of two  near the front of my booth…"

C.C. Barton replied to Judy Christian's discussion New Tax Laws -quick fyi
"Hi Judy, Thank you!   A question...how is the medical expense deduction going from 10% down to 7.5% better?  I don't do my own taxes (probably because I don't understand things like this) but would still like to know…"

C.C. Barton replied to Rick Wallace's discussion art studio advice needed
"Rick, Especially since you've had knee replacement, it would be good to invest in at least one and maybe more (depending on how you work) anti-fatigue mats to stand on.  The concrete will kill you."

Need to replace my Toyota Sienna XLE AWD

Hi Friends,I walked away from a rollover car crash two months ago - my 2006 Toyota Sienna XLE AWD saved my life...gotta love those side air curtains. I ended up upside down hanging by the seatbelts until the paramedics came but I walked away and am just dealing with residual whiplash issues.  Unfortunately, my van was totaled.  I've been on a search to replace it since my insurance settled with me but can't find what I need.  Here's the list if any of you have one you'd like to sell or knows…See More

C.C. Barton replied to Ryan Choate's discussion 10 x 10 Set-up in a 12 x 12 spot?
"p.s.  I've been to some very expensive shows (Sausalito for example), who don't give you an extra inch beyond the 10 x 10."

C.C. Barton replied to Ryan Choate's discussion 10 x 10 Set-up in a 12 x 12 spot?
"No need for a different set-up.  This is bonus space for you and your neighbors - give thanks that the show organizers were so thoughtful as to lay out the show this way!"

C.C. Barton replied to Connie Mettler's discussion Wishing AFI member John Powell well in the coming days
"Wishing you the best, John.  I believe this kind of innovation is the future for all of us with all sorts of medical issues.  Hang in there!"

Best show ever and why
Saint Louis Art Fair - Clayton ...several years ago - Most money and fastest sales...pure art show nirvana.
Worst show ever and why
I have a mental block about this, so the name of the show eludes me...but it was a small show in east Texas many years ago and was so hot and humid I thought I would pass out...and of course there were no buyers out for that kind of punishment. Nada...zip.

I never had to leave a show...for any reason.

Anyone have lodging recommendations for Lakefront in Milwaukee?

Posted on January 25, 2018 at 11:48am 2 Comments

I've done this wonderful show in the past and was really happy to have received my invitation for this year.  In the past I've stayed at County Clare Inn & Pub because of its close proximity to the show and also, very importantly, because of the restaurant within. It's a great place to stay, but pricey.

Because I'm doing very few shows at this time (rotator cuff surgery upcoming later this year) I thought I'd ask around for less expensive lodging suggestions from people who've…

Where to get Tru Vue Framing Glass in Santa Fe, NM

Posted on November 1, 2017 at 5:15pm 20 Comments

I've just relocated to Santa Fe from Colorado and no longer have delivery of framing glass to my studio in Santa Fe.  This is critical for me as I frame my own work for sale and to ship to galleries.

The only vendor listed on the Tru Vue website in my area was Larson-Juhl, but they don't create accounts if you're not a brick and mortar storefront.

If any of you New Mexico artists who also frame work know of a resource for Tru Vue framing glass, I would appreciate you…

2015 Bellevue Art Museum July show - Review wanted for 2D

Posted on February 8, 2016 at 6:15pm 10 Comments

I've done the BAM show several years running in the past, but was juried out in 2015.  The last time I did it was 2014 and the energy, especially in the evening, was way down.  They don't sell beer and wine for customers to walk around with and the music they provided was inexplicably placed inside the shopping mall with chairs for people to sit in there and listen to the music!  This was, of course, of no benefit to the artists.

I just received my acceptance for 2016 and…

Does anyone have any experience with Queeny Park in St Louis?

Posted on May 16, 2012 at 12:19pm 2 Comments

I've been on the hunt for a few good indoor or panels-only shows to do.  I came across the Queeny Park show in St Louis - apparently they have one in the Spring and one in the Fall.  I'd never heard of it, but have always done well at shows in the St Louis area and wondered if anyone has done this show or has information from anyone they know who's done it.  Thanks!
