Rating Howard Alan Art Shows..

Hello;

I live in South Florida and want to plan half a dozen art shows between now and next Summer in Florida. I was thinking of (if accepted!) limiting it to the Howard Allen Art Shows as they seem to be well organized. (I say this as I have not been in any of them yet.) Do any fellow artist have past experiences with these shows, and can direct me to the better ones? (In terms of crowd and POSSIBLE sales...) Thanks.

  • I second Judy's comment, William. The folks at Howard Alan want to be successful too and if you are successful they will be also. They are helpful and willing to help you get started with their events. And I second Melanie's comment. Not all shows of theirs (or anyone else's) will work for you, but some will. It depends on your media, your price point, the marketing of the event and the demographics of the area. It easier to make some phone calls and check around online than to buy a booth space, travel, set up, pay all the expenses of being at a show.

    Thanks for joining us here.

  • Lol Barry Bernstein I love “I’m not doing your homework for you” comment.    William Lee don’t take offense.  Barry has been around and gives good advice and receiving advice from someone who has the experience is amazing.  Still we have to take what everyone says with a grain of salt and have to do our own homework.  You asking and posting is doing your homework good job.  I am a big fan of HA shows when it is the right market for me.  I like the way they run their business.  Not all their shows are the right market for my work.  I wish they were because life would be so much easier as an artist on the road if I could limit myself to their shows.  You can research the demographics of each show and that helps but it comes down to trying out the area for yourself.  The shows that have Saturday morning set ups, and this is all shows not just HA shows, usually mean high volume traffic. I’m a night owl so not a fan of the early mornings but you adjust especially when $$$ is to be made.  The logistics of applying and doing a show is part of the homework.

  • Hi William~I just want to SECOND everything that Barry Bernstein said regarding Howard Alan Events.  Barry~you were SPOT ON!

    Good luck to you William & hope to see you at one or several of HAE!

  • Thanks Judy..

  • Hi William,

    I decided to not do HA shows after investigating, but I was looking at Cleveland and Pittsburgh.

    This was some time ago, and I believe that I called and talked to someone. I suggest trying that as I remember that they were nice and also helpful. Best wishes!

  • Hello again Barry. My sincere apologies if you thought I was asking you to "..do my homework." I thought this was a site, by artist, and for artist, to communicate and help each other; it was certainly not my intention to do what you are saying.

    Thanks for taking the time to comment...

  • I'm not doing your homework for you. Go to the HA website and ZAPP and check out the shows you think you might want to do. All the info is there.

  • Thanks Barry.. One more question. Do you know of any of their shows that fill up as far in advance as you are stating?

  • Nobody can tell you which HA shows to do. Some are good for me and some aren't, but, the same shows that aren't good for me are still good for others. The better shows fill up really fast. So, if a certain Florida show is filled 5 months in advance, it probably is a good show. There is a commonality between all HA shows. There is no food, no music, no sponsor booths. Just exhibitors. Also, there is no buy/sell and HA shows get the crowds. You always have a chance to be successful. With most of HA shows, the jewelry category is filled. If your category is filled, you will get on the wait list.

  • Ive had great luck with Howard Alan shows in Florida.  Id try them based on your location and dates and go from there.  Many fill up fast so as Larry said sign up as soon as you can.  Some are very early Sat am set ups so bring a headlamp so you can see in the dark.  The staff is very good at getting people in and out and helping you with any issues.  I drive from CT so I can rec their shows highly.
