Part 1 of 2 episodes:

Time is up. Get online or get out. We find ourselves comfortable right where we are. We’d rather suffer a little than try new things.

(4/21/20) - there is an artist's work that I've always loved and decided to go shopping today to check it out and perhaps buy a piece. Yes, there was a website, but not updated since 2018, and no way to make that purchase.

Is this you? Is it time to finally get this done?

If you have never built a site before today is the day. This podcast will get you started with the basics and will sort out the options that have been holding you back.

Our guest is veteran web designer Franklin Piuck, Cyberhenge.com, Web Design for the Arts and Small Business. His own interests and contacts have caused him to develop a customer base largely involved in fine arts, designer crafts, and specialized antiques and collectibles.

We'll start with the basics:

  • 8869202064?profile=originalSocial Media, Websites or both?
  • Where to start
    • Weebly, Squarespace, Wix, Wordpress
  • Minimum adequate content to start with
  • Should you try to do it yourself, or get help?
  • Managing a website
  • Getting Traffic
    • What you need to know about Google
    • Social Media
  • Q & A

We suggest you print out that outline and make notes as we talk. As always, these podcasts are recorded and always available to listen or download at ArtFairRadio.com

  • Thanks, Bruce. Glad we were helpful.

Sorry, I did not ask your question below, and sorry you are getting those bad dudes trying to put something over on you. I've just got a very worn out "delete" key on my keyboard. Seems I don't get as many of those as I used to.

  • Thanks for the presentation.  It was very helpful.  I will look at my website and either update it or switch to one of the ones you recommend.    Looking forward to next week.   Bruce

  • This was a great show! Please keep them coming!

  • More than 5 years ago I paid someone to develop a website for me. I am able to add products and events but I can't figure out how to do any updates, which it needs. It is WordPress and I don't find it user friendly. My developer is no longer available to help. How do I figure out how to do this.

  • 95% of web site requests are scams to get me to ship a painting for bogus check.  Is there any way to prevent that?

  • Please tell me how much money to expect to pay for someone else to set up and manage a website.

    Thanks.

  • Please include how to control inventory & ordering from your website.

  • Hi Julie, we will probably touch on the text descriptions of images in our next podcast. We're planning to focus on more basic things on this one, but maybe we'll get to that question today.

I have heard from artists on all selling points, from impulse buyers to collectors, that are selling work online. Again ... I'm planning podcasts on that topic also ;)

Ah, Maureen. That question is more on target for today's podcast. We'll get an answer on that one for sure. Thanks.

  • forgot to add...would a website for branding make a difference in selling

  • 1. Would love help with best file names and alt-text descriptions for product photos (wooden boxes, each one different) so that they show up in  searches

    2. Our work sells well at shows at pricepoints 200-400 bucks, when people can touch them. Do you really think there is an online market beyond our current customers?
