How NOT to Notify

"Hello RC FULWILER,

Your entry 1912.157431 ...was not juried into Art on the Square 2015.  Your interest in the show is appreciated and we wish you much success with your work."

I had no idea what show this was from.  Art on the Square is a common name in this business.  It took quite a while to figure out it was Belville, IL.  Gee thanks!  I guess that's all $40 will get you these days.

  • My favorite acceptance letter is one that says "Congratulations" in the header. You don't even have to open it up to know that you're getting good news. If you don't get in what else are they going to say? "You're work sucks"? You know that already. No one has to tell you that.

  • When I ran a few art fairs we agonized over the "rejection" letter. Here is one of my favorites, from a little show in northern Michigan, you'll really like this one:

and here is a great thread about this from a show director: http://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/the-ideal-jury-process

  • Geri, thank you for the inspirational words.

  • Belleville, IL

  • My wife & I each got the same irritating notification.  Since we also didn't get accepted we thought it might sound like sour grapes to gripe about the way we were dismissed. Ha! NOT. Similar to so much communication that assumes you remember every-art-show-in-every-location-in-every-month-of-every-year!

  • entry 1912.157431-this message will self destruct in 5 seconds.

  • Heh, that's what we got and like you said, mighty little of either.
  • A little bit of personality and character wouldn't hurt either.

  • I commented on Facebook but it doesn't show up here. Strange

  • I have an idea... How about an animated cartwheel email for yes, or animated mooning for no?
