Estes Park under water

Wow, I canceled my participation in the Estes Park Fine Art Festival earlier this morning. I didn't want to make a 6 hour drive up there through these floods and mudslides... but now the situation is much worse. Here is a video of downtown Estes Park taken this  morning. Hoping everyone in Estes is safe.

  • Rae, glad to know you're safe and sound. I just got word yesterday from National Guard personnel that a large portion of Hwy 7 between Lyons and Estes Park was completely obliterated, along with the destruction of several nearby homes. Although I do not know the exact location, it sounded like it was in the area around the Riverside exit.

  • This is devastating. Rae, I can't imagine what your friend went through! Bears, exploding transformers, houses disappearing into the river. It must have been terrifying. Thank goodness she got out.

You've got to give kudos to the Estes park show organizers for refunding everything! I'm very impressed.

  • I got emails from Elk Fest and rental agency in Estes on Sunday. The town has a flood recovery information page on FaceBook.
  • Thank you for adding this post Rae. We see the flood photos, and can only imagine what each person involved is having to face in these dire situation. Many prayers to all involved.

  • I can't even imagine how bad it is up there or in Lyons CO.  We got out of Longmont CO yesterday, took 5.5 hours to get from Longmont to north of Ft. Collins with lots of detours, the amount of flood devastation was unreal.  The St. Vrain River, Left Hand Creek, Le Poudre River, Big Thompson and all the other rivers that flooded was unreal.  We were told to evacuate our campground near Longmont Wednesday night, a very stressful situation since we're full time RV'ers. Thankful to have made it out of there, our hearts go out to the people in that region.

  • I heard Bill Nye, the Science Guy, on Bill Maher last night -- talking about the changing of the climate and how it is manifesting all around us. So scary.

Hope all of you in Colorado are okay.

  • I discovered earlier today that I couldn't get to Estes even if I wanted too. Hwy 7 is closed at St. Malo, as well as in Lyons.

  • Thanks for these updates, Susan. So sad for all involved, counting my blessings here in Michigan.

  • Latest aerial photos of Estest Park. I cannot believe how bad this is.   http://kdvr.com/2013/09/12/raw-video-flooding-in-estes-park/  Yes, I believe most communications are out in Estes Park.

  • My heart also goes out to those putting on the show. I'm in nearby Allenspark if you need any help. However, based on what I'm hearing, most communication in Estes is out.
