CERF+ and California Fires

Hi Guys, I got this email from CERF+. I've donated in the past and will again. I hope you will too and help out other artists in  need.

Dear Richard,

According to CNN and the California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection, California has experienced its most deadly and destructive wildfires in the past two years. Longer drought periods, strong winds, and warmer temperatures have contributed to the increasing size and impact of these fires.

In 2019, more than 5,600+ fire incidents have burned 245,000+ acres in California. The Kincade Fire is 45% contained and has burned 76,825 acres – making this California’s biggest fire of the year.

In Southern California, firefighters are fighting the Getty Fire that has consumed over 745 acres on a hillside in West Los Angeles. A number of additional large fires are also tearing through the state, including the Tick Fire, Caples Fire, Oak Fire, and Palisades Fire.

In the past five years, CERF+ has provided more than 50 artists from California with close to $200,000 in emergency financial assistance and established a specific California Fund to help support these efforts.

Please help us spread the word about our emergency relief program and recovery resources to artists you know who might be affected by these fires.

If you would like to donate to the California Fund, simply follow this link to our secure online giving page and select please use my gift to help California artists working in craft disciplines from the drop-down menu. It's easy to do and only takes a minute. Your contribution will make a real and lasting difference in the lives of the artists impacted by these fires and other emergencies.

Thank you for being part of the Artists Safety Net.

Sincerely,

Cameron Baxter Lewis

  • Thanks for posting this. I am in California and fortunately not in need of assistance. I know how devastating it can be to lose everything or nearly everything. My Mom's house caught fire a few years ago (not a wildfire) and much of my Dad's art and all supplies were lost. He also restored old cars and lost all of those and a garage full of tools too, not to mention everything in the house that was lost.

Fortunately The Getty fire is contained and the priceless museum will survive.

  • I posted this on some Facebook sites and could you believe an artist was grousing about it because CERF+ supports fine craft artists not all artists.   GEEZ!

  • Thanks Richard for posting this.  I am sure while the wild fires are on people's minds people don't realize there are artists there that may have lost their homes are their art supplies and stock.  It is always good to share what CERF+ does for artists.  New people join our group everyday and certainly may never hear of CERF+.  Thanks Richard
