Art Fest in Harrisburg...Questions?

How Y'all doing.

I'm thinking of doing the Jump Street event in Harrisburg at the end of May but I have a question and I was hoping my fellow members here, could help me out.

My question is this, do the organizers of this show have any arrangements for overnight parking of RV's?  I've emailed the organization twice and still no reply. Having recently purchased an RV, I am looking forward to using it as much as possible.  I'm finding that many of the shows do but seeing as there isn't even a review for the show, as I said, I thought I'd ask you, good people, for advice.

Thanks for taking the time to read this and I hope that some of you get back to me with an answer.

Y'all have a good day now..Y'hear.

If this isn't the right forum for this, I apologize.

  • Once again Deborah, my thanks.

Most kind of you to take the time and answer my questions, it is very much appreciated.

  • I am on the street and prefer it because I can park right across from where I set up and stay parked there all day til I’m ready to leave.  You may not be able to do that with an RV.  I think some people pull onto grass to unload then move, but not sure as I have never been on the grass.  But I know many people prefer the grassy area along the walking path near the river because you get more breezes when it’s hot and no heat reflection from the pavement.  I think I’ve experinced every kind of weather on this last weekend of May - horrible heat, thunderstorms, cool temps requiring jacket, strong breezes.  Somerhing for everyone!

  • Thank you kindly, Deborah.

It sounds much like most shows I've encountered, good one season and not so good another. Much like yourself, this is only my fifth season and there is always a learning curve.  I must say that you're right, they do seem a mite skittish on their outgoing communications but I'm sure that throwing some money at the problem will cure that.

So, to answer my question about where I should ask to be set up, what're your thoughts, on the street or near the river.

Again thanks, I'll most definitely have to stop by and say Hey, it will be good to meet Y'all.

  • Raoul, this shows works for some and not for others.  For me it works as follows: a good year followed by a so-so year, followed y a good year, etc.  Each so-so year is better than the last so-so year and each good year is better than the last good year, so I’m happy.  They offer all day set up on Friday during which there is free water and snacks at the sign in booth.  Though communication ahead of the show lile your attempt to reach them is spotty, you get plenty of communication from them as the show nears and they seem responsive during the show.  Volunteers do booth sit upon request.  If you do the show, come by and say hi as I am not far from the sign in area.  P.S.  goos food at this show!

  • Deborah, Hi.

I was getting ready to send in my application to the show when the asked me, "what spot I would like?" Not having any idea of what the show is like, I thought that perhaps I could rely on your good will once again.
Could you suggest a good spot, is it better, saleswise on the street or back by the river? Perhaps you could tell me what spot you had? Actually, any information that you could avail me of would be greatly appreciated.

  • Thanks, Deborah.

I still haven't heard back from Jump Street, so it appears that I'm left to my own devices.  I very much appreciate your taking the time to reply.

    Y'all have a good day now, Y'hear?

  • I have done the show for several years.  After set up on Friday, the parking lot near the medical center/hospital near the end of Front Street is open all weekend for overnight and during the show artist parking.  I have seen small RVs there so it must be allowed.  It can be quite a hike from that end of Front Street to your booth depending on what end of the show your booth is in; so be prepared with a cart or something if you need to take more than a couple items back and forth.  Your problem may be where to park the RV during set up on Friday as that lot is not available for artist use until after 5 pm on Friday I think. And they do ticket in Harrisburg!  Hope this info helps.
