Horrible new Zapp format! Very difficult to use! Why was this done?

I always went to upcoming months on calendar to see upcoming applications due highlighted in red, now I see maybe 8 in a month.  Very difficult , impossible in fact.  Larry, can you  help?  or anyone?

how are other people faring with this new format?

Would appreciate any feedback, thanks.

Agreed! I sent Z an email last week. My complaint was primarily around the My Zapplications page where, depending on screen resolution, you can now only see 2.5 - 3.5 apps in a bulky, bloated format with tons of extraneous info (old format you could see ~10-12 +/- per page). Fine for an artist with just a few apps, but horrible and tedious for a full time pro with many. On mobile, you can only see one per page!? I told Z to simply show a list of apps with columns of key info, that’s clickable to expand into all that junk info. I got back a form email saying “thank you for....we are constantly improving...blah blah... - It’s probably in the trash

I totally agree. It is not a good interface. I liked the list where you could choose favorites and keep a check on them. It was pretty useful, now it is not. I gather they wanted a more current clean look, but sometimes it doesn't do the job.

Agreed. A lot of extraneous information, and the calendar is not displaying anything useful

Perhaps if ZAPP could have an option for old/new format?

As it is, I find the Calendar option not helpful.

Also, under the 'my z applications', there is alot of bloated info - very hard to view. 

The feature I want to see added are 2 sorts, 1 for show dates, the other for show deadline.

I'm not enamored with Zapps changes. I totally don't get the calendar. I would like to hear why they found it necessary to make the changes that they did.

However Mark, you can sort for show dates and show deadlines.  Go to MENU.  Then Apply to shows. Move the search filter to the right.  You will see what you are looking for.

Thanks to all of you who replied.  I also sent a message to Zapp, and got no reply.  still puzzled and p---ed of about why they did this . 

Just now tried to go on the site to find a show I wanted to apply to and couldn't find the show.  Help!

Another topic- have you noticed how many of the application fees have crept up to the $40-$45 range.  If the show is an unknown show to me, makes me less inclined to apply. If you do multiple applications in a month, you are looking at $200-250 just to most likely be rejected. 

Thanks to all of you who replied to to my note of frustration about the new Zapp changes!  if enough people complain, maybe they will do something!

Hi Laura. As soon as I saw your post I sent a message to my contacts at Zapp and am really surprised to not see someone replying here also. Something going on and I'm sure we'll receive some  answers soon.

Hi everyone,

We're training two new artist support team members this week, so I'm only now able to jump in over here. Though we operate with a small (but mighty!) team, we categorize and discuss all feedback that we receive — by email, phone calls, social media, and through online forums. We've responded back to every message we've received — if you didn't get a response, please send us an email at contactzapp@westaf.org and we'll look into this for you. 

The primary goals for the changes were to create a responsive site that scaled properly for all different sized devices, one that was adhering much more significantly to accessibility standards, and update our infrastructure and underlying technology so that we could maintain a website that meets modern technology expectations. While we have achieved all of this, I am positive we can continue to make tweaks based on user feedback about what works and what features they find more difficult. An example of a change we've already made based on feedback is the sort on your My ZAPPlications page. Many artists commented that they preferred the previous sort that existed by application open date. In addition, we're in the midst of some tweaks to the calendar based on great comments from users. We've received some great feedback so far, which helps inform future work. Please feel free to reach out to us with your thoughts!

Thank you for responding to us all. A suggestion, perhaps if there is an option to use the old calendar format? This could be quickly implemented using code you already have. I certainly understand the design approach to making things look good across various devices; back in the day, when I was doing user interface usability testing with IBM, we would use screen of various resolutions, see how the graphics looked. That said, today, there is a wide range of devices out there, very difficult to make one design that will look great everywhere. Myself, I do most of my scheduling work on a computer; larger screen, hence I prefer the older calendar format. I mostly use my phone as, well, a telephone, and a camera. Even when I am traveling, the show deadlines do not change on a minute by minute basis, so for me, it can wait until I am using my computer in the evenings. Just my $0.02 from n old computer guy
