Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
I know this is late. I just happened to stumble upon this and thought I should pass this on. The deadline is 5pm on August 28, 2020. I thought maybe with shows pretty much being canceled someone may have the time to quickly put things together to apply for this.
The Appalachian Sustainable Development is applying for grant funds to pay an artists or team of artists to paint an outdoor mural on a new garden shed depicting agriculture and it impact in Central…Continue

Covid-19 has prevented many art fairs from taking place this year. One show that will definitely look different is the Uptown Art Fair. While the Uptown Art Fair will be canceled, it will be adapted for the changing times.
The Uptown Association decided to cancel their traditional art show which was planned for August 7-9, 2020 to protect the health and safety of the artists, art patrons, guests, neighbors, and…Continue

Here you go, this show sounds like they have done their homework to protect everyone as best as possible from Covid-19. The show is the 18th Annual Orchard Lake Fine Art Show held in West Bloomfield Township on July 25 & 26th.
The show is produced by Patty Narozny of HotWorks. Patty has had to cancel several of her shows earlier this year. It greatly bothered Patty to cancel show after show because of the virus. Patty knows that artists depend on shows to make their…Continue
Once again I have spent some time evaluating the www.Artshowreviews.com website. Take a look. I think you will find some very interesting facts. We know many of our artists use our Art Show Reviews website. We know because you have also told us many times that you do use it when you are making up your schedules.
However, we need your help. This website will not be as useful to…Continue

Can you spare 7 minutes of your life to help the art fair community? Let me convince you.
Below you will find some very interesting facts about www.Artshowreviews.com? I have spent some time evaluating the information from the website from 2018 that I would like to share…Continue
This was the 22nd year for the Garage Sale Art Fair. I love coming to this show. There is something for everyone here. This show is held the last Saturday of February. Winter can be rough in Kalamazoo and by the end of February people are ready to get out and shop.
The show is put on by Bonnie Blandford and Michael Kifer of Road Wife Productions LLC.…Continue
The Elkhart For the Love of Art Show was held on March 12, 2016. This show is held in the Elkhart RV Hall of Fame. The Hall of Fame is located not far from the Elkhart City limits. It is also right off of the I 80 Indiana Toll Road which makes it very visible to people coming from the toll road or from Michigan.
The RV Hall of Fame sits in the center of a huge open area. There were signs along the road in Michigan and near the Hall of Fame announcing the art show. They…Continue
I just want to thank Jeff Gracz for submitting several show reviews this month. He wrote reviews for several west coast shows. We are always looking for some west coast shows to help out artists on the west coast.
You all know how important it is to have an idea of what to expect before applying to an art show. Nobody likes to be blindsided once you get to a show and find out it is nothing like you hoped it would be. That is why art show reviews are so important. You can find…Continue
The Garage Sale Art Fair was held February 27th. I really look forward to this show every year. It is great fun catching up with people and the deals are crazy good. Usually I am there as a shopper. This year I went with Connie to sell some of Norm's art fair equipment and his art work. I have not helped her do a show in about ten years. It was always fun being on…Continue
Yesterday Connie and I traveled to Leo-Cedarville, Indiana to check out the Art by the Riverside show. Actually, I was checking it out and Connie was judging the art work for awards. This is a one day show held toward the end of September. Yesterday the weather was perfect. It was overcast and perfect to spend the day looking at art.Continue
I had the fortunate chance to attend the Chastain Park Art Festival when I was in Atlanta for my son's Law School graduation. His graduation was on Monday so we decided to go check out the Chastain Park Art Festival on May 9th. The show ran from May 9 through to May 10th.
The weather was wonderful, that coming from someone who just left the frozen tundra Michigan had been fighting off all spring. It was so nice to be able to stroll along the artist's tents without being bundled up…Continue
If you missed the Daily Tip a few days ago you may not know that we broke a record here at AFI. We broke our record for the number of art show reviews submitted during a one month period. In April we had 56 reviews submitted! That was simply amazing.
Everyone realizes that it is a real help to have a place where you can check a show out before you apply. Nobody likes to go into a show blind. Artists also hate to waste the jury fee if you find out later that the show just isn't a…Continue

This week I traveled to Kalamazoo, Michigan for the Garage Sale Art Fair put on by Bonnie Blanford and Michael Kifer. I ha ve attended this show several times in the past but this was the best one yet.
The place was packed. There were lots and lots of shoppers. There were 138 juried artists with amazing art work. Most of the artists had art work that they wanted to…Continue
We have had some discussions as of late about Bayou City and the problems there. I came across this info. I meant to post it before now but I am catching up on my work and so today is the day.
If you click on the link you will learn that the Houston Festival Foundation is now closed and they are filing Chapter 7…Continue
December 12, 2014 20/20 is doing their show on "Closing the Sale." I have been looking for some info on what exactly they will be covering and I can't find anything. I did see the brief promo for it last week at the end of their show - you know when you are trying to catch the Christmas tree before it falls over and you aren't completely listening to the TV.
I do know it is on closing the sale but I don't know if it is about helping the customer to not be talked into making an…Continue
While working today I stumbled upon this job opening. The Crozet Arts & Crafts Festival is looking for a new director. They have 2 festivals a year. This is a 12 month job and is part time. They are taking applications until 10/31/2014.
This festival is located in Crozet, Virginia. This might be a great job for someone that still wants to participate as an artist themselves during a few weekends a year or needs some money but still is needed at…Continue

I stumbled across this today and just had to post this. Here are 25 amazing sculptures from all around the world. It would be hard to imagine a world without sculptures. Take a look:
My favorites are the Passersby in Poland and…Continue
A friend asked that I post this. This is a great story of how you just can't keep a good guy (or woman) down. What started out bad finished with a happy ending. Plus, this story will alert you to why you need to always be aware of your surroundings, why you need to have a good inventory, and why a guardian angel can be very helpful.
Ok Everybody – have I got a story for you! And if you have never…Continue
This year is rapidly coming to an end. Soon the 2012 shows will be over and artists will be conteplating new work for the 2013 season. I was just wondering, what do you all do with the inventory you don't want to haul to your 2013 shows? Do you have a small show in your home, do you store it away, do you give it away as gifts, do you use pieces for donation purposes? I do know of 3 "garage sale" shows where artists can unload unwanted items. I think they are great. The shoppers appear…Continue
