Des Moines Arts Festival

Greetings,

I was checking the weather forecast for the festival, and up pops this winner.  Pretty much a sad commentary on the current state of affairs, eh?

Geneva Fine Arts Fair, A Review

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa, where I've recently arrived after exhibiting at the Geneva (Illinois) Fine Arts Fair.

Do you remember a month or so ago, when on these very pages, I posted a blog article titled A Walk Through At The Des Moines Summer Arts Festival?  No?  Well, here's a link:   …

A Walk-Through At The Des Moines Summer Art Festival, 2013

A Walk-Through At The Des Moines Summer Art Festival, 2013

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.  Yup, that Jefferson.  The one about an hour northwest of Des Moines, close enough so that it was perfectly logical to drive in and spend the day, just to review an art show that I was not exhibiting in.

And so, here we are:  a review.

Saturday, 1PM.  Husband and I park the car at the nearest parking ramp and head towards the southeast corner of the…

Running Like The Bambi's...

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa, where today, was a run morning.  As I've mentioned before, and I'm sure you've heard, there are a select few mornings of the week where I do a predawn run/trot/limp - one of those.

I was…

Red Flags

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa, where I got a red flag this morning.  It came to my inbox.

I'l like to share it with you - maybe it came to your inbox as well?  Surely.

Festival Layout Expanded!

A few great spaces are available for the festival

Does that not make everyone run and hide?  Put their propanels in the back corner of the basement?  Purposely…

Promotion Give And Take

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.  Did you notice my absence?  We were vacationing.  And it was great.  Even the add on.  Now that part has you curious, right?  That "add on" bit?  But first we need to highlight a word from the title of this post.  Promotion.

Promotion - yes, you could erroneously assume that I am going to give you a sales pitch on some paintings today.

Promotion - yes, and you could also erroneously assume…

Red Warning Flags

In considering whether or not to apply to an art fair, every seasoned exhibitor will tell you to check out the details.  Look for the red flags of warning.  Interestingly, this one came to my inbox this morning, and they helpfully even already had it in red text.  How convenient.

ARTIST APPLICATION DEADLINE…

But Of Course, We Just Don't Have Enough Art Fairs

Good grief.  Look what just hit our inboxes.

Plus Two NEW Festivals in Milwaukee, WI and New Buffalo, MI

Wouldn't you expect that a national level art fair director would know by now that there are too many art fairs?  That patrons are really becoming ambivalent about whether they attend or not, because it'll be  crazy easy to find one to go to next weekend instead?

How many artists have lamented the…

Check The Coffee Pot

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.

We've been through a bad phase lately.  Please allow me to share; and honestly, it's not THAT bad.

The scene:  Husband and I in the car, driving somewhere, and one of us would look at the other of us and ask "did you check the coffee pot?"  As in:  did it get turned off, or left on?

Somehow we have adopted the assumption that an empty coffee pot left turned on when nobody…

The Summer Art Fair. What's The Mission There?

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio.  Yup, still on the topic of that summer art fair.  Who'da thunk it was so complicated, eh?

The summer art fair.  And no, we don't have to limit ourselves, it could be a fall event--we'd even allow winter if you move it indoors.  Think art festival, then it becomes season-less or generically seasoned.  However/whatever.

Today we need to talk about one of the major problems with the art festival venue.  In a…

The Summer Art Fair. Would I Be An Artist There?

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, where we've predetermined to talk again about the summer art fair.

Aaaah, sunny days, the green grass of the park scattered with cute little white tents, happy artists selling their fine art....

Oh wait.  How much of that line is fiction?  Imaginary?  Delusional? A sham?

I've spent quite a bit of research time lately on the topic of the "fine art fair".  Some of them have a heck of a…

Catch And Release. What A Concept, Just NOT For Artists.

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa.

My husband just left to go "get his line wet".  Around here that means he's going to see if a fish wants to bite.  I should probably share that he is pretty much strictly a bass fisherman.  Large mouth or small mouth--no matter, but it had better be a bass.  I guess they are more fun??

But here's the thing about most bass fisherman:  they are catch and release people.  They don't play…

When Weather Forecasters And School Bus Moms Are On The Same Page. Change-up.

Greetings,

Welcome to the Cooper studio, Jefferson, Iowa, where today, due to circumstances beyond my control, and even though it's a Tuesday, today is run-day.  Get out there and go.  A couple of miles down the bicycle trail and all of that.

A couple of months ago I wrote a post that started out with running.  post  It focused on getting the…
