Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
Just got back from a one day show in South Bend, IN, run by Shireen Kline. It's called "For The Love of Art". Beautiful venue in downtown South Bend. Host hotel was an equally cool Hilton Doubletree. It's even connected to the Century Center, where the show takes place. She uses the 2 ballrooms at the center where roughly 45-50 artists have their spaces, with pipe and drape and electricity if you need it. Space fees start at $165 for a 10x10. No extra fee for a corner, which I really…Continue
As a result of the St. Louis Mock Jury, I was introduced to two wonderfully helpful ladies, Cindy Lerick and Laura Miller. They help run the St. Louis art show. I got to know Cindy, thru contacting her with questions I had from the mock jury results. Long story short, she had the idea to set up a Webinar with me, Cindy and Laura so they could look at my Zapp portfolio. Cindy sent me an email to connect to the Webinar, which was yesterday. All went very smoothly and easily, especially…Continue
This past weekend, my good friend and favorite jewelry artist, Amy Taylor and of course husband Tom, used their beautiful backyard garden and home as a small "show" for 7 artists. The cost to us was $25. That's it. And that was for advertising. Not sure how many times they've done their show, but it's at least 3 or more years. My drive was an hour and one artist was from the Milwaukee area. Amy lives in Glenview IL.
As a stained glass artist that exhibited, I have to…Continue
As you all know, Connie had a pledge drive and those that donated were put in a drawing for various gifts, generously donated by other members. I won this beautiful! borosilicate glass cuff from Leslie Huston of St. Petersburg, FL. Wanted to post so you could see how wonderful this is and being a glass artist myself, it will go so nicely with me at my shows. So here's my shout out to Leslie. Thanks so much again! Here is the link to the picture I took. …Continue
I had to share with you an email I rec'd this morning from a young man that was looking at my artwork, with his family at the Gold Coast show in Chgo. As I talked with his parents about my artwork/life/how they're visiting out of town, I noticed their son fixating on one of my antique pieces. A small metal item with an antique griffen, embellished with a crystal. My small, affordable items. As they were saying good bye, I asked him why he was so absorbed by the piece. He told me he…Continue
I saw this link http://whatthecraft.com/how-to-pricing/ on Pinterest and started reading it. Seems to dissect the pricing process. Could be of some help to 'newbies'.
He just about covers all that is needed. Click on the link to learn!
I just got back from the College Hills show in lovely Cedar Falls, IA. It is a Fri and Sat show. Not a Sat Sun or Fri Sat Sun. It's FRI and SAT. Setup was Thurs afternoon. I'm working along all week minding my own business when my friend Paula Grill, an AFI member also doing that show, called Wed at 9:30PM. She stated that we had made our hotel reservations for LAST wk and not THIS wk, when the fair was. (I should mention here that…Continue
I just got called off the wait list for the Columbus show. I've never done it before and I'm wondering if anyone out there can give any advice. What's a good spot to choose? Is it worth the drive from IL? I will really be squeezing this one in so I want to make an informed discussion so I don't regret it? I know of course everyone's experiences are different, but any help would be greatly appreciated.
