The Great Fair in Fountain Hills, AZ

What a joke,  I think they should name the show something else, not the Great Fair  I did this show in the early 90's and then it was a Great Fair.  The work was real good and no buy/sell.  I knew artists that did wonderful sculptural pieces, paintings, and fine jewelry work, but where have they gone. The artists I knew 20 years ago are no longer doing this show.  And this show has evolved into mostly buy/sell.  It is a shame.   And then the landscape is changing do to progress.   Used to…

Square chip reader and working with parkinson's

I have a motor tremor in my hands and find it hard to insert the chip card into the reader.  i was thinking of inserting the card into the reader and then inserting it into my ipad  is this feasible.  and then i was thinking of getting the 49.00 reader  since there is a slot for the whole card and that might solve my problem of inserting the card  does anyone have the 49 reader and how do they like it

Prescott fine art and wine show

Wrote a review of show and thought it was fair under the circumstances. I have never seen so many dogs at a show in the 25 + years of doing shows and I think from observation made this weekend dog walkers don't buy. Not one dog walker came in my booth. I like dogs but the stones around the square are rough. I saw maybe 10 people on the grass. Rained at setup, sat was cold, Sunday was sunny but not real warm. I told myself would not go back when barely made booth fee in 2012 but thought maybe it… Continue

Boulder City Art in the Park

First of all the weather was perfect for this show after so many years of wind, and rain.  The crowds were huge, and they seem to be buying.  This year they had a lot of portopotties which was good.   Three of the parks were filled with artists.  Wilbur park where the fine arts was,  was about 1/2 full, from other years,   The biggest problem with this show is all the buy/sell.   Someone a year ago who reviewed this show said it was walmartized, and were they ever right.  There was a LOT of…

How do you sign your works of art

I was wondering how you all sign your works of art.   I have an electric engraving tool that i scratch my name onto the piece of steel that my work is on.   My signature is faint that is the problem.  I am thinking of getting a stamp and put my name in that way.   Has anyone done this and if so would like to know the results.   The other thought is weld a small metal plaque on each piece .   I have seen it once.  Has anyone done a lasar label.   I am just curious to know what people do these…

Read your contract before changing Credit Card Companies

READ THE FINE PRINT:    I made the mistake of not reading the fine print and this past week tried to cancel with my present credit card company.   I found out that when the three years expires it automatically gives you another  3 years unless you write 90 days in advance to cancel.   So now i am stuck till april 2013.  I did not read the fine print.  If I want out it will cost me $314.00.    The one good thing to come out of this is that i was told that my rates are going to come down.   (I…

need an opinion

i need opinion from anyone.   i am in process of designing a sculpture for someone in tx.  they originally want 100 pieces now supposedly they are down to 20.  I have been redesigning this piece now for over 3 weeks.  They did not like this, i changed it,   they did not like that,  i changed that.   Finally sent them a picture of a final design. Now all of a sudden they want my prototype, sent to them ups for final approval.   So i went from 100, to 20 to 1

I am not in the market of…

Prescott, Az Art Show

Here is a review from the Southwest part of the country.   I have taken time to reflect on this show which was the Prescott Arts and Crafts Festival put on by Mt. Artist Guild.   First of all they treated the artist fine.   Bringing by water and snacks both Sat. and Sun.   If you were alone they did come around and sit in your booth while the artist went to the bathroom   (portopotties).    Setup and teardown were easy.   Prescott usually gets rain on this particular weekend.  Well the rain…

Any reviews from Park City, Crested Butte, Etc.

I was wondering are there any reviews of the Park City show, Crested Butte, or any other mountain shows.  There are some of us that live in the southwest and would like to know about shows in our neck of the woods.   If I sound frustrated  yes just a little.   I like hearing about shows east of the Mississippi  but want some west of the Mississippi

Are shows these days using sponsors

This past weekend did a show called Hermosa Beach Arts and Crafts Festival in Southern Calif.   I was told by friends that it was a good show.   I did the show in the early 90's and it was an true arts and crafts. There were fine art painters, ceramics, metal work and others handmade arts.  Well, now this show has sponsors,  natural juice, milk, bottle tea, satellite tv.  The show had very little handmade arts and crafts and a lot of buy/sell.  What used to be a great show has turned into a…

Would like opinion about Northern Calif Shows

Am thinking of doing an art show in N. Calif  around Walnut Creek and would like to know if anyone has had any experience up there.   Told the economy is depressed up there.  But this is suppose to be one of the best shows in the east bay area.   Would have to drive 700+ miles one way.  Figure the way gas keeps going up it will be at least 4.00 a gallon by june in calif.  They say they get 90,000 people at the show. Has anyone done the show or shows in that area.  … Continue

Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival

Just got done doing the Rio Grande Arts and Crafts Festival this past weekend Nov. 25-27. My report is as follows.

Set-up was real easy, Tear-down not so easy. The parking behind the hall that the show was in looked like a trailer park. I got there real early on Sunday morning to get a place for my econoline, so it worked out for me. Fri morning got there just before show opened and had to go across the street to park as well as Sat. Morning. There was parking at the show for exhibitors but… Continue

Celebration of the Arts in Summerlin, NV

Last weekend of Sept. 25 & 26 did a show in Summerlin, NV. called Celebration of the Arts Las Vegas. First note is that everyone is given a corner. Set up and tear down is a bear, you have to bring your work in by dolly from a parking lot. She does provide motorized carts, about 3. She also will drive one for you. If every promoter did what tamara does for the artist, life and shows would be so much easier and less stressful. Porta potties are convenient. Weather was a little warm, if you… Continue

When are arts and craft shows going to get rid of buy sell

This past weekend i did a show in Boulder City NV. Art in the Park. I walked the park after setting up and noticed a lot of buy/sell. One park had nothing but buy/sell. The fine art park was rather skimpy when it came to filling a park. It was 1/2 full. The art was very good with some b/s. Most artists had their own art and then there were one or two that had b/s. The other three parks had scattered booths of buy sell. What is the arts and crafts show coming to and when are they going to clean… Continue
