Thanks - safe travels ,and stay well

CHARITY ART AUCTIONS----A BIG NO NO

This  has been posted before by others- as we are asked for donations all the time; one may want to keep this article in mind.  There is no tax benefits for the artist; pieces are usually sold for pennies on the dollar with no reserve minimums, and it is rare to get any business afterward- and if so the prospective buyer wants an unreal deal (like at the auction). Read on, and protect yourself.

Barry Cohen- R.I.P.

Barry lost his life this past Friday in a auto accident on I-95- traveling to an art festival. Over the past 20 plus years we have been great art fair friends. His acrylic sculptures were highly admired, and always top notch- he too was a perfectionist. He was always a joy to have as a neighbor. We had recently figured out a summer schedule- which included using our N.J. home as a staging point. I know he would have been really upset if another friend had lost their life, because of tire or…

Gaithersburg, Maryland- 6/25-26

We checked into the hotel on Fri., flipped on the tv for the weather and there was a tv ad on the local Fox station; I had a comp. copy of the washington post and there was ahalf page ad. Feeling good we went to the site and saw tons of signage on the way.  A first year show, fit our northern bound schedule, we have done fine in previous Paragon events, so here we were at this town center that was packed with people Fri. night. We also saw a CNN  ad for the show when we returned…

PHOTOGRAPHERS NOT WELCOME IN FLORIDA

" Florida Senate Bill 1246, introduced in February, would make it a first-degree felony to take a picture of any farmland, even from the side of the road, without written permission of the land's owner."

This is the same penalty as if you shot someone with a gun ::   I am so proud of my state and it's wise decisions; including the elimination of sports, art,& music in our school system.

         If I was a photographer I wouldn't care about a can of worms-- I would…

BERKSHIRE'S ART FESTIVAL JULY 4th weekend

This art festival is in one beautiful part of our country; with tons of affluent tourists at a great time of the year.  Don't miss the deadline;; I blogged live from this art festival last year; our sales were real good, the crowd was knowledgeable and willing to buy nice work.  Richard & Johanna Rothbard put on a high quality festival that has a loyal, loyal following; and they do it right-they charge a gate- and they do their advertisements (full billboards on all the main roads) etc.… Continue

CHINESE ART GLASS KNOCKOFFS

A post by Wendy Rosen yesterday identified VIZ art glass as flooding America with artists copies: Google Viz--Alibaba.com arrives which is everything from China.  Antitrust, and copyright lawsuits are being filed as we speak..  BUT IT IS UP TO THE GALLERY OWNERS AND ART FAIR DIRECTORS TO ALSO HELP STOP THIS RIP-OFF;; JUST SAY NO;;SIMPLE--AND A BOOTH SLIDE WON'T STOP THIS- THE ONLY WAY THE BOOTH SLIDE WORKS IS IF THE PERSON IS KNOWLEDGABLE -NOT AN OVEREMPOWERED VOLUNTEER-

ATLANTA- PIEDMONT ARTS FESTIVAL

WHY OH WHY would anyone schedule an Art Fest on Yom Kippur/ this is like having a show on Christmas Day. Nancy and her crew did a great job in getting everyone in,(I escaped quickly); they kept us nurished in the heat, and were very attentive to artists needs. They deal with what the city hands them, dates included. Even though this is the 4th year for this resureccted show(???)- THE QUALITY OF THE ARTISTS WAS OUTSTANDING// FROM ALL OVER THE U.S.

Now the bad- a previous post sited $50…

BERKSHIRES-LAST DAY--& BREW REPORT

The mountains are great and HOT HOT HOT 90s// there were crowds and buying was happening although selective // I saw alot of satisfied artists, and then some that were down in sales from the past; The heat as always ends the shows, no matter where, earlier; as was the case here; Once again The Rothbards have had another successful Art Festival, and my experience was enjoyable, successful, easy load in-out, a great location and all in all a return is in the cards for next…

Berkshires Art Festival --LIVE

The mountains & weather are beautiful. The crowds are here and buying from alot of artists, and as usual not from others. This show is probably maxed at 10,000-12,000 attendees in this upscale vacation destination. 3 days, and looking for a large crowd again// just come and buy. If anyone knows how to put on a show it is Richard Rothbard, his energy, advertising, and knowledge of artist, gallery owner, and show promoter shine brightly. He proved in his Sarasota Show that a large crowd doesn't… Continue
