Atlanta Dogwood Review...
Everything just seemed to fall in place. Stormy weather was predicted for our drive there but during the entire trip it seemed that it poured rain everywhere ahead of us and stopped everywhere just before we drove there. Wet cement and puddles but no rain...! We didn't have to turn on the windshield wipers at all. The closure of I-85 was north of where we were driving and we were able to drive…
Now that the election is over no one can use it as an excuse for poor shows. Our first show after the election was this past weekend and it was a good show for us.
I sure hope that we all have excellent shows going forward without any more excuses or reasons to have excuses.
I cannot think of any negativity and I don't want any..
Howsa bout you? Are you looking forward to a great upcoming year ?????…
The Three Rivers fest is held in beautiful downtown Covington, La and is stretched out over a 5 block area. I like this setup because it makes it easy to visit all the booths withough having to zig-zag through a maze of booths and possible miss something. Not all shows have the advantage of this type of layout due to the show location.
Load in starts at 4:30pm and was a fairly easy load in and setup. With the daylight saving time it became dark early and I was glad I had my trusty…Continue
Here is the award i received at the Birmingham magic City Art Fest last weekend. My wife took the photo and I whited out my face so it wouldn't wrinkle the ribbon...…Continue
Last week we had in excess of 8+ inches of rain, storms and flooding here in southern Louisiana. Carol and I could not attend a show we were scheduled to do at orange Beach, AL because the only road going and coming to our house was flooded at the bridge over the creek.
We walked down to the bridge yesterday (about a half mile from our house) and wondered if we will be able to get out in time for the show we have planned next weekend in Fairhope. The Amite River, Bayou Manchac and…Continue
Today while doing a show I had a discussion with another artist who said he uses Square on his iPhone 6 and always closes the Square app after each sale because it would use up too much data.
I disagreed and am under the belief that it only uses up data when you are processing a transaction. Leaving the Square app, or any other app on when idle does not use up data on you plan...just battery.
I asked others at the…Continue
When I bought my Blackberry, I thought about the 30-year business I ran with 1800 employees, all without a cell phone that plays music, takes videos, pictures and communicates with Facebook and Twitter. I signed up under duress for Twitter and Facebook, so my seven kids, their spouses, my 13 grand kids and 2 great grand kids could communicate with me in the modern way. I figured I could handle something as simple as Twitter with only 140 characters of space.…Continue
Well, the Bayou City Art Fair is now over and it is my time to do my best at writing a review. This is not about the controversy discussed in other forums because that has been overdone and is past news. This is about the time from load in to load out and all that I experienced during the time in between.
Carol and I arrived Wednesday afternoon and had a scheduled load in time at…Continue
Check In and Set Up
My wife and I participated in the Atlanta Arts Festival this past weekend. This was our first time doing this show and we did not know what to expect. We drove into Atlanta Thursday afternoon and got caught up in the largest rush hour traffic madness I have ever seen. Being from a small town where 50 cars backed up in the afternoon is heavy traffic to us…well, it made Atlanta traffic beyond words…or at least any…Continue
I have been approached at several of the shows I have done recently by gallery owners asking me about wholesale prices for putting my work in their gallery and additionally asked about selling my work on consignment. I know most want a sizable discount...which is somewhat understandable.
My 1st. question to anyone who does wholesale your work ...or send it to galleries on consignment is what type of positive and negative results have you experienced?
If you send it to a gallery…Continue
I have tried searching the blog posts for discussions about woodworking art at the shows and I was not able to find anything. I notice alot of artists here are photographers, painters, jewelry and numerous other categories. but no wood art.
I was wondering why I do not see more woodworkers and wood artists at shows. Most shows seem to have a huge number of all categories ...except woodwork. Are most wood artists not interested in doing shows?
I am a wood sculptor creating…Continue
