Back in the Saddle!

Well guys, sorry I haven't been posting or 'blogging' but alot has happened since my last post. The economy is making a come back but you have to 'evolve' your self and your work. If you have been on the art show circuit for along time, your stuff becomes 'tired' looking and  people that have seen you for 3 -5 years at the same shows start to see it too. Time to relook your work and think of ways to 'update' it. What? Do I hear that is what my work is and I'm not changing a thing? Well, as…

Cutting down on traveling, are you too?

Well, I traveled long and hard this year and I think I will be staying closer to home with all the traveling expenses and make a long story short, I added the expenses and what I netted.....That was alot of traveling and work to only make a few hundred dollars a show! So I decided to stay closer to home and try the smaller shows in my area plus it was taking a toll on my health. I'm getting very creative on where and how I'm displaying my work and extending my subject manner to…

Beware of galleries that are miss-representing what they really are

I just learned a great expensive lesson.Beware of 'gallery owners' that approach you and tell you wonderful things about what will happen. Always go and check out the place and make sure it is what they say. He highly exaggerated what they sell, was treated with disrespect, they used some of my equipment without my permission, left the artists alone at the booth that he was representing to sell t-shirts.....yes I said t-shirts....I have high end oil paintings and was there just to demonstrate… Continue

Worried about no money for future booth fees...

Well, since this has been a very slow year for me, I cannot apply for any shows for the next season since the money I made went to bills so now I have to wait until something comes in and call the last minute to see if I can get in a show when I have the money. This economy is really taking a toll on me and everyone including the buyers. Will we be extinct within 10 years? I'm not quitting, this is the only thing I know how to do. Also, I hurt myself very badly on my back setting up my booth. I… Continue

Kentucky Shows 2010 part 3

I am finally home after my 'tour' of shows in Kentucky. And what a tour it was! I thought Florida was hot but boy, it was sweltering. I never show in the heat and try to avoid it, usually Kentucky is tolerable but not so this time. My last show was Francisco's Farm in Midway College. I heard it was a great show and now I know why. Set-up on Friday was unbearable with the weather blistering. I took my time and usually a 3 hour set-up took me almost 6 hours, resting and drinking plenty of water.… Continue

Kentucky shows so far this month....

Well, the Kentucky shows I'm showing in this year is really a hard sell for driving over 1400 miles! The economy has hit this state really hard. You would think that being an equine artist I would do real well in the heart of horse country but it even hit here. Louisville at the Summit was very slow, the date was changed to the Kentucky Derby Race day....hello...this is Kentucky...this is their superbowl! It was dead on Saturday and Sunday was a wash, rain all day. I had alot of clients that… Continue
