Black Swamp Arts Festival

Well gang, this was my first year doing Black Swamp Arts Festival in Bowling Green. Ohio. First year with a Honorable Mention Ribbon. But my sales were though the roof. I didn't know how this fair would went. But my sales total was $3397.50. Not bad for a two day art festival. I really like this fair. People were always within my booth. So many art fair patrons visited my booth. I am really amazed my time was invested into this show so heavily. Bringing in 155 5x7s and another 45…

Rejected by Crosby Festival of the Arts

So I was rejected this year by the Crosby Festival of the Arts. I don't know why. But that's the fate we are in. So, I'm here in La Porte, Indiana getting ready for Artigras! in New Buffalo, Michigan. My tent is up. So this is a new fair for me. So I'm am getting excited to be on new turf. This means my work will be judged by a new set of people. Yes, I will apply to Crosby next year. But this is the hand that was given to me. 2013 was my very first ribbon from Crosby. So I'm excited…

Maple and Main 2015

So, Maple and Main Art Fair in Sylvania, Ohio was a tale of two different days; May 30 and 31. With this being my fourth time in the show, I had my highest sales of any of the four years. Saturday was nice and dry and I hit $1000 on that day. Sunday was mostly rainy and I just go up to $70. The volunteers there are great! They handed us water, baked goods, bananas and gave us restroom breaks. I happy to do Maple and Main for I used to live in Sylvania, Ohio back in the day. Here is a…

My latest round of rejections

After having a banner year last year, I'm receiving a lot more rejections this year. I don't know what has changed? I was rejected for South University Art Fair, Crosby Festival of the Arts and now tonight Arts and Apples. It makes me wonder about my other applications. Will those be okay or will I see more rejections? I guess I am in a down year. Which I did not anticipate...

My most popular post on Facebook...

So, I was kind of shocked and surprised at how this post went. It received 1840 views, 27 likes and one comment. Normally my posts reach about 50 people. So I took out the vintage Fisher Price airport and three vintage Fisher Price jets and other pieces too in winter storm Linus. I set the scene and took the photograph. The title is Airport Closed...…

So it's February...

Yes, February has begun. Maybe I will hear on some of my applications for the 2015 schedule. While I am still hibernating but my Etsy shop may get a few sales this month. Yes we just got hit with a big snowstorm today. All this snow get me thinking about the 2015 season. Which for me, that won't start until late April. That is 82 days away. I like the art fair season. I like traveling to shows. I like meeting the…

Made my first sale for 2015

Although, I'm not doing art fairs at the moment but my Etsy shop is running fine. I just received my first order for the new year! It was a gift for someone else. Starting the new year with a sale makes my happy, very happy! Here is the print that they ordered... Male Embrace #13/125...…

I am an introvert...

So on the art fair scene, I am still an introvert. I say "Hello" but probably nothing else unless someone ask's me a question. So my work speaks for itself? My sales this year were double of that of 2013. But how does an introvert interact with the customers coming into by booth? What advice would you give me to open up more with customers entering my booth? Are there other introverts in the art fair scene? And how have you done with being in this condition? I know I am kind of shy…

Holiday Art Fair

So, I did do the Guild's first year show in Ypsilanti, Michigan; The Holiday Art Fair. It was at the Eastern Michigan University Convocation Center. Saturday of the show was kind of slow. Most of the artists that I talked to, sales were down. That was for me too. Just making over a $100 on Saturday.

But the Guild called me on Thursday to be on television. Yes, I would not pass up any free exposure. So at 8:18 in the Sunday morning I was interviewed by Fox 2 Detroit for my art…

Time to focus on my Etsy shop...

With only two more events for the rest of the year and I won't be back until April or May of 2015, it's time to focus on my Etsy shop. These are the highest months for my shop. I've already had four orders in October. This is what I do. I have a Etsy shop and I do art fairs. But since I live in Michigan, this is the hibernation season for the art fairs. I am trying to get up to 100 items in my Etsy shop. That is…

Hyde Park Square Art Show 2014

Wow! What a difference the weather makes. Last year there was a lot of rain and I did only about $850. But the sky was clear this year and oh boy! Keep in mind that this is a one day show from 10 AM up until 5 PM on the first Sunday in October. The fair is celebrating it's 48th year.

But on the plus side, its a chance for my parents to visit me at an art fair. They live in the Cincinnati area. Hyde Park Square is an old neighborhood with a lot a wealth in…

Art-A-Licious 2014

So this is a small fair in Adrian, Michigan. It's in it's eighth year. This year was my first year doing this show. My sales were not all that spectacular. I did just $487.50 at the two days at this fair. I was hoping to hit the $500 mark, but organizers decided to cut the fair short on Saturday because of impending storms. The call was made about 6:30 PM. The show was supposed to run until 8 PM. And we had a severe thunderstorm roll through the fairs while we were packing…

Mundelein Fine Arts Festival - 2014

Well, it was my second year in Mundelein. Last year, I did about $1300. This year it was much lower at $805. Maybe they are tired of seeing me? I had people come into my booth this year said they bought my prints last year and then leave. Okay, maybe I will take next year off from Mundelein. Maybe I will apply to Arts and Apples in Rochester, MI - that would be a lot closer to home for me.

I did have some misfortune there! Hotel was $205. I had a flat tire Saturday…

WoodsStock 2014

I guess I was in the wrong fair. But why did they market me so heavily since Maple & Main in Sylvania, Ohio in the beginning of June. Did they just want my booth fee and nothing else? This was the first fair in a long time that I did not get above the booth fee (let alone the application fee). The booth fee was $100 and the application fee was $20. All I made for the show was $80. The last time I was under like this was in my first year form the 2012 Ella Sharp Art Beer and Wine…

Art on the Mall 2014

Well, it's been another successful one day show. I beat my last year's totals by about $50. But this year more people came through my booth because I requested a different booth location. I put last years map back into this post because I changed from booth 53 to booth 14. While no framed pieces sold, but just a lot of 5x7s and 8x10s plus postcards, that means that I had higher traffic though my booth this year.

Art on the Mall is produced by the University of Toledo's…

New to Ann Arbor...

This was my first year as an artist in the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair. I've been attending the fairs since 1998 as a customer buying art. There are many pieces in our house from the collecting over the years. Some are in storage in the basement because there is not enough wall space in our house.

The truth is that I was accepted into both the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair and the State Street Area Art Fair. But being a new artist at the Ann Arbor art fairs is both exciting…

OMG! Two days into Ann Arbor!

Okay. I guess I have a really good booth spot in the Ann Arbor Summer Art Fair. I'm on State Street just north of South University. Booth location is C053. Well, the skinny is that I am really surprised by the sales totals I have received. Prints were flying out of my booth.

Wednesday was my first $2000 day ever. My sales totals were $2180! But wait... Thursday was a another big day! Wow! This is my first year in Ann Arbor. Thursday's totals were $1590. Being on the main drag…
