Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
Everyone familiar with me knows that I'm a picture frame designer, maker, carver, and gilder who makes frames exclusively for his wife's artworks. During 1999 I began studying picture frame history and soon discovered gilding in all its glory. I was lucky enough to have a friend who gave me the first 10 years of Picture Framing Magazine (1990-1999) wherein I discovered a treasure trove about frames, frame making, gilding, and the industry.
In 2004, I received a professional…Continue
I did this show that happens Thanksgiving weekend many years ago, but quit it and a few others before it so that I could be home in Wyoming for Thanksgiving. Seeing the list of winners makes me wish I could still travel to Florida for two reasons: I see a lot of friends and a gobs of prize money! I haven't yet heard about sales, how the change of venue is progressing, and how the other show not too very far away on the same weekend …Continue
Greg might be unaware of his fame today, but I was just visiting the Collectors of Wood Art website HERE HERE HERE and discovered he's the featured artist on their home page. I don't know how often that feature changes, but it doesn't really matter all that much. What does matter is that Greg is a member of Collectors of Wood Art and that his work is being featured.
I'm a fan of that site and organization anyway and…Continue
MANDARIN ART FESTIVAL is a small show located in an affluent Jacksonville, Florida neighborhood, and it may be one of Florida's best kept secrets. This year 90 artists will exhibit on the grounds of MANDARIN COMMUNITY CLUB, which is the historical Freedom School site built by Harriet Beecher Stowe in 1872. The St. Johns River can be seen behind the homes…Continue
We just finished our first show of the season, the three day, two shows combined event in Fairhope, Alabama. The festival ran March 20, 21, & 22 and show hours were Friday and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. An awards dinner (great pasta food and deserts) was held Friday night from 6:30 to 7:30 and tickets are required that were exchanged for Mardi Gras beads to be served. One ticket was provided for each booth with the booth fee and an extra ticket costed $15,…Continue
I'm presently a member of Society of Gilders and have only been a member of the group since July, 2013. I've been a professional artist for nearly 25 years and only recently decided to take the plunge and pay dues to be a member of a national club. Pretty soon I will be joining another group since I can see the benefits to membership more clearly.
Why in the heck did it take so long for me to join? I dunno? I've investigated membership in various clubs ever since the…Continue
HERE'S WHAT AWARD OF HONOR ($800) LOOKS LIKE. WOOHOO!…Continue
We’ve exhibited in this coastal Tampa area venue four times in seven years and this year was our worst ever despite last year being our best ever. The show is located in a quaint historic neighborhood in a fenced park along Spring Bayou providing a beautiful setting for any outdoor event. Gate admission is $5 and attendees are given a coupon ticket to redeem for a free canned soft drink or bottled water. And there were plenty of patrons afoot, or so it seemed, with several loyal fans…Continue
My wife and I have done this smaller show four times in the last six years and this time it was the BEST EVER. In fact it was our BEST EVER show in this area and we've done Great Gulf Coast and Art in the Park twice as well. We've always featured well in awards here, and this year we rocketed back to the top by winning Best of Show ($1,000). Sales have been good some years and poor the others, but this time they were well above average for us since we sold two originals along with a good…Continue
