First show ever
What are the best things about art fairs
listening to comments about your work which, in many cases, can help you to move forward, and of course, meet people from all over the world. Santa Barbara is a major tourist magnet and I've sold to people from at least 20 countries probably led buy the UK and Germany. Our show is in its 44th year,,,and every Sunday.
Best show ever and why
Hard to define...mostly all good. If sales are slow its still ok..get to sit under the Palm Trees with the Pacific Ocean at my back and enjoying the almost always great weatherI

Worst show ever and why
Just the very few Sundays of rain or wind
Who referred you to Please be specific.
Because some idiot employed by the City Of Santa Barbara had the sprinklers go off around 1pm, right in the middle of the art show.

Mostly not a good idea...restaurants, salons. etc, have to pay for everything that comes through their door, but they feel that their wall decorations should be free...after all their giving you this fabulous "exposure". However, if you're going to it here is some advice (yes, I've done it)

Get a signed copy of what you are leaving.

Don't leave it there indefinately...30 to 45 days should be adequate to see if there is any interest.

Have a definite agreement of how and when you… Continue

That's great to know! I had asked about this on another site and people told me that you couldn't do it! I'm definitely going to try that because I'm a little impatient with the drying time, too. Thanks!!

Excellent! That does make sense because gesso and modeling paste are water-based, so using either of those as a base would be the same as acrylics as a base. If it wasn't so late, I'd start a painting now.

Use the good paints out there that are available. Pay the xtra dollar for the good stuff like montana's or Ironlak.

I really appreciate your willingness to answer questions! We have produced bridal shows twice a year for 15 years, but this is certainly a different animal. I think learning the vendors and their likes and dislikes for a good show are my main objectives right now. I've been looking around at other show booth costs. I think $250 for a 10x10 for a 3-day show with 8,000 attendees is low. What do you think?

Thanks Chuck, It is interesting the number of people that come into my booth and say "I can do that in photoshop!" I enjoy putting paint on the image and changing it into my vision. Most of my work is Colorado and the ghost towns etc.

Thanks for being here, Chuck, and for your posts.

You folks on the West Coast do have a fabulous place to do art fairs outdoors. Here in the Midwest we are always fighting the weather. Here it is mid-May, blowing and rainy on a Saturday, should be a good art fair day. Oh, well. We are used to it.
