Ever had another artist screw you over?

Posted on July 20, 2017 at 9:20am 28 Comments

Have you ever had another artist basically screw you over? I have a rant.

At a show in Cincinnati last fall, I was talking to a jewelry artist I have run into at many of the same shows I have done. I was admiring the different style of his nicer pieces, and brought up that I had a large 2.25 pound block of lapis lazuli I have had for years, basically a big doorstop/paperweight to me, but maybe he could make a nice set of earrings and pendant for my wife's 50th birthday in…

Review: Asheville Fine Art Show -- such potential

Asheville Fine Art Show, Hot Works

Asheville, NC -- May 20-21, 2017

I just returned from the Asheville Fine Art Show in Asheville, NC. This was an indoor event at the U.S. Cellular Center downtown. Asheville is a fun, funky town with a big art scene and a lot of food choices, and LOTS of beer breweries downtown. What's not to love?

This show had some amazing potential. There was a boatload of advertising for the show, the weather outside was supposed to be storms…

Howard Alan Events - greed and no frills

Posted on January 27, 2017 at 10:16am 8 Comments

It's frustrating for me to be sitting here on the couch right now when I thought I would be on the way to an art show in Sarasota.

Why? The infamous "wait list" of Howard Alan events and the bottomless greed from applications they accept.

I applied to this show because another show I had scheduled for this weekend also fell through. I saw this one was still open and accepting applications and thought, "Great! This show is still open!" Since I had never been rejected from a…

2016 Summer Shade Festival, Atlanta, GA

August 27-28, Grant Park

This show had me in such high hopes. Professionally done Artist Handbook, emailed out in plenty of time. Option to purchase an ad in the Festival Guide.

There was smooth check-in, excellent communication with the volunteers, and smooth load-in. The artists around me were excellent, in my opinion. Good proximity to the port-a-johns, an "intersection" of the sidewalks, and a local craft beer tent. I was near…
