Hi! I don't think I've posted here yet. In October, I'm doing my first outdoor vendor/arts fair and I was hoping I could ask a few questions. Specifically, I'm looking to compile a checklist of all…Continue

"This makes me sad to read, that you're anxious and not soothed by your craft. Is it the stress of gearing up for your first show? I hope the show went amazingly well for you!"

"I sure will! It may be Sunday or Monday (I'll need some recovery time) but I'll definitely make a point to gather my thoughts and post a follow-up. I'll try to include things I've learned, where I went wrong, and a checklist that…"

"Yes! That's what we're here for, Veronica. I'm pleased to see how much help you've gotten. Will you report back about the good, the bad and the ugly of your first event? I'd love a post mortem."

First show ever
My first show ever bombed and I haven't been back since. It was in 2015 at a local May Day festival. They had just decided to move the indoor activities to a new location, didn't advertise these changes, and had a hodge-podge of vendors there that didn't jive at all. They also charged $75 for admission for a 5-hour show, and we had to provide everything necessary for our 10x10 booth. I made two sales, which totaled $20. My friend didn't make any sales. We were going to split the cost, but she supplied the tables so I covered the whole thing, making it a loss of over $50. It really soured the experience for me.

What are the best things about art fairs
Ambiance and getting to meet a variety of unique artisans. As someone who goes to art fairs, I generally take pictures of their work with their business card in the photo. I usually want to support them, but can't possibly have enough money to purchase from everyone I admire.
Best show ever and why
The best show I've ever been to was probably Mayfest in Tulsa.
Worst show ever and why
The worst show was the one I was part of, the May Day festival in Owasso, OK.
