Any thoughts on the Howard Alan Cleveland area art show?

After the disappointment of Boston Mills cancelling again this year, I am looking to do another show that's local for me, and have applied for the Howard Alan show in Beachwood-Lyndurst, OH Art in the Village.  Has anyone had experience with this particular show?  I've read lots of good reviews about the promoter, but can't find much on this exact show.  If accepted, it is only 10 minutes from my house, so the convenience factor is high.  I show traditional 2-D art, and my price point is fairly…See More

"Hi David, I think you'll like the Flourish walls.  I started with just the white mesh.  They are very strong and durable, and in the hot summer shows, they allow a nice breeze to come through!  I just recently bought the sage…"

Client won't accept commission - now what?

Hi y'all.  I need your advice regarding a situation with a commission client who has just gone radio silence with me.  They contacted me to create two portraits for them, based upon work of mine they saw online. Before even starting the two large commission works, the client asked me to do three smaller pieces they could gift for Christmas.  They were pleased with all three, and paid. Then first larger portrait was completed and approved.  However, upon completion of second one, client did not…See More

First show ever
Gingerbread House Art and Craft Show was my first show of any kind. My first real art show, though, was Boston Mills.

What are the best things about art fairs
Validation of my artwork.
Best show ever and why
Boston Mills was my best show to date, but I am just getting started. But this show was the largest venue I've showed in to date, and I was able to make a profit despite lousy weather.
Worst show ever and why
The Chagrin Falls Avant-garde show was my worst. The booth fee was high for me at the time, and I didn't sell a single item. Bad weather kept the crowd size down, but I don't know if I would've done better even so.

St. Louis Art Fair Mock Jury 2018

Posted on February 5, 2018 at 2:03pm 4 Comments

Hi All!

I recently participated in the St. Louis Mock Jury this past January.  Even though I was unable to attend in person, I participated through their webinar.  As a newbie, I found quite a few take-aways from this experience. Even though I didn't really have a booth shot to submit, the biggest tips for me were on my future booth shots.  Don't overcrowd your booth with too much artwork, make your displays look professional and inviting, don't have any signage or promotional banners…
