Years in the Art Fair Business
Been earning my living with my art for many years, but have only logged a few in art fairs.
First show ever
Sidewalk art fair at 13 years old. We applied as a class. Had been doing batik on sheets of muslin. I didn't have the patience to iron off the wax. The judge came by, touched mine, said "UGH!" and walked away. I was crestfallen, but, apparently I got over it.
What is your website?
What are the best things about art fairs
Connecting with my audience, as well as other like minded artists. Seeing them again at the next show. Making business decisions and seeing them work out. Earning a living doing what I love to do.
Best show ever and why
The best is yet to come.
Worst show ever and why
There was one summer when I scheduled six shows, and got rained out of three, hurricaned out of a fourth. Lost each booth fee, of course. But even a bad show is another day in business. I keep that in mind.

And although I had read and researched and practiced and planned, my insides sweated it out and I totally wanted to back out of the whole thing. By the time we arrived at our friend's beach house with a borrowed van the night before the show, I was already exhausted, and soooooo angry.…

Preparing for a possible overnight storm

Have a show across from a beach next weekend. First outdoor show with a tent. I have been reading some of the horror stories of artists returning for their second day only to find a storm or heavy wind ripped through while they slept and now everything is in shambles. My question is, if you are informed and keep abreast of the weather, and know that the night might bring something bad, have any of you ever closed up completely, taking everything with you, including your tent, and just set up…
