Event Insurance Firms - Opinions and Recommendations?

Posted on March 11, 2016 at 3:56pm 22 Comments

Everyone has seen an event prospectus or applications which has statements that say that exhibitors are required to carry general or specific types of liability insurance in the amount of a bazillion dollars. These requirements also usually indicate that a certificate of insurance needs to accompany the application and should name the event or event entity as co-insured on the certificate.

Lastly, the certificate sometimes must accompany the application, or you don't get in,…

Staged Booth Photos and the Jury Process - well why do you take them and why weight them so highly?

Posted on August 3, 2015 at 2:54pm 66 Comments

I have been wanting to have event promoters discuss this topic for quite some time, but never got around to posting it: Why do juried events accept STAGED (FAKE) BOOTH IMAGES for evaluation purposes and then weight them so highly?

Truth is, most on site booth set-ups do not resemble the submitted jury images. They do NOT usually show browse bins, density of merchandise marketed for sale, signage in use at the show, and that often many exhibitors move their displays…

Howard Alan Arlington Festival of the Arts 2015 - Event Review

Posted on April 29, 2015 at 3:17pm 13 Comments

This was my first Howard Alan event. I had previously juried into at least two previous HA events which were cancelled by the organizers - Baltimore Inner Harbor and Georgetown... One killed by the Gran Prix and the other by apparent inability to reach agreements with the local govt...

Location, Location, Location: I think location had a great deal to do with whether your sales that weekend were successful. I was…

Lansdale Festival of the Arts...August 23, 2014...Lansdale, Pennsylvania

Posted on August 29, 2014 at 6:23pm 2 Comments

So earlier this summer, I was looking to fill a hole or two in my schedule. In checking on eventlister.com/craftlister.com and a couple other sites, I saw an opportunity for an event slightly northwest of Philadelphia.

It was an event billed as a medium…

Welcome to Art Fair Insiders, Mark.  I'm pleased to see you here and look forward to having you as part of our community.

When you have a chance, please add a photo of yourself and stop by the Discussions" area to introduce yourself to the rest of us. We all look forward to your participation here. Also, visit the "member map" and add your location. We have a lot to offer one another, experienced and newbie alike. Let's make this a dynamic site!

Many topics have already been discussed here before you joined us. You might like to try a search of your topic before you post your question. Just put your topic, canopy tents, jurying fees, Ann Arbor Art Fair, etc, into the search bar at the top of the right side of the page. You might be surprised that someone has already asked your question.

We also ask that all new members take a few moments of their time to read the code of conduct. You will find it at http://www.artfairinsiders.com/page/code-of-conduct. There are a few guidelines that all members will need to follow because , as in any social community, we all need to work together.

Best wishes,

Connie Mettler

p.s. The best way to make this system easy to use is to click on the "Follow-Email me" link at the bottom of each Forum discussion that interests you. That way the system will email you automatically whenever anyone responds. It's a great time-saver.

Mark, as a follow-up to your blog around jewelry and fiber, there is a regional show in Bluffton, SC (adjacent to Hilton Head) that does not accept jewelry or wearable fiber.  It's a bit of a drive for you but if you're headed down to Pensacola or one of the other shows, it's a sweet show even if it does have the word 'Seafood' in the title.  You can see the artists from last year at this link.  http://www.blufftonartsandseafoodfestival.com/artists.html
