"The show promoters may be able to hook you up with other artists doing the show. You might also contact that states Craftsman's or Artist's Guild and see if they have any young members who would be willing to help. Sometimes newbies want…"

What are the best things about art fairs
They allow me to make a living doing what I love.
Best show ever and why
Pink Palace, because I've been going long enough to have customers come look for me and bring friends.
Worst show ever and why
King Bisquit Blues Festival, Helena, AR, because of the roving gangs of kids and the late (10:00pm) close. When the policeman working security tells you "Ma'am, I don't think this is a safe place for you to be any more" it's PAST time to load up the van!
Who referred you to ArtFairInsiders.com? Please be specific.
I saw a link at a web site for art display equipment. Also links to tents and photography services. I don't recall the name of the site.

Trading art at shows

Posted on July 6, 2011 at 1:54pm 9 Comments

Although I have been going to shows for six or seven years, I only do a few each year and still consider myself a "newbie" with a lot to learn. I started trading with other artists fairly early on. Another artist asked me if I traded and I thought that would be a great way to add to my collection so I said "Sure!" Since then I trade at 60% of the shows I do. Most of the artists I ask about trading are eager to "shop". The first, and only, man I asked looked at me like I had left a slime…

What color do crowds and judges like best?

Posted on July 1, 2011 at 2:22am 11 Comments

I'm getting ready to order Pro Panels for a new set-up and I'm stuck on the color. There are eight colors to choose from; oatmeal, buff, teak, pine needle, moonbeam, light gray, dark gray, and black. The most common color I see used is light gray. I've never seen the teak or pine needle used, but that may just be a local thing.

I've seen the black used with large abstract paintings and it looked great, but I think it would overpower my smaller frames. Is there a reason I see so much…

Artist friendly town needed.

Posted on June 12, 2011 at 5:36pm 31 Comments

I am seriously considering selling my property in Mississippi. It is too far from any shows and the house/yard are too big for me now. I love my studio, but I can build another where ever I end up. The question is "Where Do I Want To End Up?" I know I want to stay South of West Virginia and East of Texas, and I prefer rolling hills to coast, mountains, or delta. That leaves a lot of territory to consider.

I can build to suit if the perfect house is not available, but I cannot build an…

Thanks for asking, Leslie. Here's the link:  http://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topic/new?target=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.artfairinsiders.com%2F

click on that, put a topic in the subject line and your comments or questions in the box below, then click "Add Discussion". It will be like magic and you will have entered the computer age because you will have posted online, "like a virgin."

Additionally, you should spend some time reading on the site. Click this link: http://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum

you will see at the top on the left hand side a rectangular box, type your "search term" (tent, outdoor display, booth, something like that) that best describes what you want to learn about and click "enter" on your keyboard and you will find many, many discussions about your question.

Best wishes...
