Meeting new people. Working with customers to custom design their jewelry pieces.
Best show ever and why
Art Fair on the Square, Bloomington, Indiana
easy to get to, easy to set up, responsive and attentive organizers, appreciative customers, repeat customers
Worst show ever and why
A show where the organizers did not follow through on promises, never came around to check on vendors, moved people without regard for their needs, grouped same type vendors together, were very defensive when vendors went to them to negotiate changes, and threatened vendors when problems were brought to them.

What to do: Jewelry artists, how to handle touching and trying-on considering the Covid situation?

So, whether or not we may be ready, different places are loosening the shelter in place restrictions.  Not sure when art fairs will be happening for sure or not,  but I'm starting to think about how it will work when customers are actually looking for jewelry again at art fairs.  Has anyone had any thoughts about how to protect ourselves and customers?  Do you think it's going to be possible?  I'm still having a hard time accepting that I'm "elderly" and "high risk!  LOL  Seriously, how will…

The Stars were out at the Sanibel Masters Art Fair.

We were at the Sanibel Masters Art Fair the Friday and Saturday after Thanksgiving, run by Richard Sullivan.  This was our 3rd year of doing this show.  Richard is very visible, seen walking through the show and helping to direct traffic at load in and out.  We appreciate the time he has spent getting to know and placing the artists.  The show was impressive in the variety and quality of the art work.  Load in and out could have been confusing, but was manageable because of the staff help…

We just did a great show in Springfield, IL this weekend, AN ART AFFAIR, organized and promoted by artist Ed Martin, who has considerable experience as a participant, and thus carried out the most wonderful show experience for the artists.  I posted a review of the show.  This is an up and coming show and I highly recommend it for next year.  Finding a comfortable indoor show in April in Indiana and Illinois is wonderful!

On the other hand, I have applied for the 4th Street Art Fair…

Forgotten essentials!!! Panic strikes!

Oh, geez!  We travel to Sanibel Island every Thanksgiving week.  This time we got into the Sanibel Masters Art Show, so loaded up all of our show gear, and drove the larger, but older minivan.  Already I've been anxious about this show since I've been reading about boulderbrook productions, and felt like a nimnal because my computer won't get me to the page that shows the artists' booth sites and the show map.

So yesterday we were about to go on a little shopping trip off island when…

HI Kathleen! I did the same show the year before. They had so much jewelry that I felt it wasn't worth going back. This year I may do it but I may try painting. I'm really considering making a switch in a couple of years.

It was so hot when I did the show I ended up standing in a large bin of water with ice in it. They next year a older friend of mine says she had a heat stroke from the show.

The boys were wonderful though. I have had many shows that SAY they have help but these guys really were help. And I have VERY fond memories of sitting at the tables by the big house when the neighborhood people were bringing steaming plates of food to breakfast. Wow! talk about southern hospitality!

I also talked to the organizer about not having so much jewelry. I told her I was a grown up and didn't get into every show I applied to and would rather not do a show than pay for a booth where I had little chance of making my money back. We had a very nice and frank talk about shows and I told her things from my perspective that she hadn't thought of.  I think like many smaller shows they just jury to make sure your stuff is handmade.

Anyway I am from Louisville and have recently moved back (from North Carolina) to help my Mom.

So at the moment I'm not doing many shows more than 4 hours away, and not doing any realy long.. four day shows. I am familiar with most shows around here so If you have any questions... Ask away!

- Robin
