Judy Christian replied to Sonja Jones's discussion Has anyone had experience with the Toledo Zoo "Wild About Art" show?
"I have never heard of this show, is it new? I would be skeptical of a show if it is being held during the same hours that the zoo is open if they are planning to get your customers from the zoo attendance crowd. I used to do the Chardon show when I…"

Larry Berman replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"Remote monitor juries do not have access to our full size zapp images. Those are given to the shows for publicity when the jury is completed and zapp is given the names of the accepted artists. Larry Bermanhttp://BermanGraphics.com412-401-8100"

Larry Sohn replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"But wait a minute, they are just renting out real estate. Why do they need to study our work? It only takes a moment to determine if it has colors that might go with drapes.  A pretty booth is so easy to see at a glance. What difference does it…"

Patrick Whalen replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"How can a juror, looking at 1400 entries at a leisure pace give every artist an equal chance. Different surroundings,  different circumstances, time for dinner, favorite TV show is on, phone calls. Come on leisure!"

Judy Christian replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"I have a highly overactive creative mind for coming up with scenarios. I live near a large university town where people do their work on laptops and other devices in public. Coffee shops, street benches, anywhere. I also have family members big on…"

Larry Berman replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"Color corrected monitors is one of many issues. The highest quality corrected monitor is no better than a ten year old piece of garbage monitor if there are lights in the room reflected off the screen. Or assuming most people now have laptops, the…"

Patrick Whalen replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"I think the show in question gets over 1400 applications. One of the benefits, according to show is it allows ,for a  leisure jury. Don't see where that is a benefit. Also they typically are using there own computers. What does that say…"

Larry Sohn replied to Judy Christian's discussion Remote Jurying- What do we need to know?
"You are not in the room with the jurors, so that would make it remote :-) The jurors not being in all one room is not new. Many shows are doing this. I'm not sure if this is better or worse for the artist. It keeps them from discussing between…"

Judy Christian replied to Lyra y Jose's discussion Do we need a business manager?

Judy Christian replied to Connie Mettler's discussion Any ideas on how to change demographics at the art fair?
"HI Cindy, Yes, it would be great if it was that easy. Not everyone travels all over, so a good show is not always so simple to find- and get into. They have an easier time replacing us (artists), than we do replacing them (shows!)"

Please feel free to comment or make any opinions, thank you.

Dates, may not be exact, just posting from memory.

Three small shows along the CT coast, all in small scenic pleasant towns. Easy to do.

1. 2015 -Guildford CT, Craft Expo, mid July. Set up easy Fri morning for me. Grassy center of town green area. Show Hours were easy- Fri from 3-8 pm or something like that. Sat and Sun, no long hours. Tear down easy.

Just a quick post with a little info on two shows.

Anyone, please feel free to add or comment.

Mt. Gretna Art Show, Mt. Gretna, PA

Jenifer VonStein posted a bit back on Mt. Gretna Art Show.

Thought I would add. I have done this show about 7-8 times over the past 10 years.

This show is a two day mid August. Situated in scenic Mt. Gretna, PA.

Wonderful setting.  Trees, grass, decent food and background music.

Reston VA Show, a short report

Posted on May 19, 2015 at 9:27am 22 Comments

Two things:

1. Beautiful show, great work, great presentation, great food, great looking crowd,

in a sophisticated area (DC). Perfect. Show committee did a wonderful job here. Everything was great.

2. Sales. Not.

The customers that I had all told me the same thing---they WALKED from their condo to the show!

This show was too good to not be visited by people from the greater DC area- where were they?

 For a $500 booth fee, $50 jury…

Manayunk Art Show 2013

Posted on June 24, 2013 at 9:00am 38 Comments

Here are a few thoughts on the show, while they are fresh in my mind:

Manayunk, June 22, 23, 2013.

Large street show, variety of work, good quality and some ok work.

Nice area, nice atmosphere.

Interspersed in between booths- commercial booths- 5 Hour Energy, Geiceo, etc.

Also gave out tons of free yogurt near me- tons, so people were carrying entire BOXES of cold yougurt, hands full, and I would say no longer shopping as they just received some…

Thank God for you.   I thought that I was strictly alone regarding my comments.  As old as I am I am still stunned that some people (very, very few) are watching The Ed show!  I am open to all opinions within reason and listen to different discussions but I do not tolerate stupidity-and that is what we have so much of.  I am honored to be your friend and please keep in touch.

Nate
