looking to move from shows to pop-ups

Because of this pandemic I have seen something new happening in Wisconsin people starting their own pop up. I am beginning to think that may be a good thing with the costs going up I see the promoters making more and doing less for the artists and not keeping their shows free of buy to sell and not keeping the show balanced because they just want to sell the space. So maybe this would be a good time to make a change what’s the worst that could happen that hasn’t happened.

"I've had the Bellefonte show in Wilmington De offer to apply my fees towards 2021. It's funny that the smaller shows tend to work with you such as 501-c3. The larger shows have jury fees which (I feel) should cover their expenses."

Shows that get it and are refunding fees

I wish to thank these shows for getting it and returning fees. This rough on all but unless we change how things are done and make changes to make it a level playing field our industry will not survive. Over the years things have changed some good and some bad like to much politics, to many fees, inexperienced people running them and the biggest greed. Now that I have said my piece I would like say thanks to these shows for return of funds. Most of these are in Wisconsin.Festival of the Arts…See More

Fees being returned by some shows and not others?

Because of this epidemic things are tough for everyone. But I am not understanding why some shows are returning funds and others are not. I understand that this is hurting all but for a show to say they have expenses to meet, well artists do to. If your running a show and you don’t have things like insurance in place well I find it hard to believe that you would still be in business. There’s a saying no business is in business to loose money. I know there is many small and large shows out there…See More

Hi Jan!

Nice to see your name here, too. Sorry to hear you got socked with rain so many times! I've seen rain in the forecast for each of my June events, but I've never used advanced rain forecasts before. Here's hoping for blue skies ahead!

The V word

Posted on July 11, 2018 at 11:46am 1 Comment

The V word has been becoming the promoters favorite word and to me it means a Tupperware sales person. I don’t understand why they can’t use artist or artisan that is what we are. I have noticed one thing that shows that use that word is usually the kind I want to stay away from because I feel they just want to sell space and do not care who they have in their shows.

Picking your Poison When Chosing Shows

Posted on June 7, 2016 at 7:20pm 12 Comments

Chosing shows can be a double edged soared. If you chose to go with booth fee that can mean fees from $100 to $1500 and add jury fee $25 to $100 and none refundable and if the promoter dose their job and it's a great show we all smile. Now let's talk reality you will never get the jury fee back and you need to sell a lot if the booth fee is high and than add Mother Nature into the mix and now your possibly running at a loss and that's not taking into account your costs for time and travel and… Continue
