I wanted to weigh in on Bayou City Spring show in Memorial Park. When it was 300 artists and 30K attending at a paid gate, sales were OK. Now there are 450 artists and less than 25K (many teens with no $$) BECAUSE THERE IS NO PARKING. The 1 lot for bigger spenders + the shuttle (people with money shun the shuttle) and the City won't let folks park on the park roads (why?) so a city of 2-4 million only turns out 25K attendees, pathetic! Either move the venue to downtown or bribe the city to…

Like some other old timers, I've been doing shows for 30 years and after some breaking in, sales during the 90s and early 2000s were great!!! Sausalito, Ft. Worth, Sun Valley, about 17 per year and sales were booming. Then 9/11 and later the recession of 2008 I noticed my sales were HALF of the usual. I specialize in humor which at first blush always suffers from the Rodney Dangefield effect- "Don't get no respect". But once people catch on to what I have (sometimes it's the color that draws them in- sometimes it's my…

Fairhope used to be a very decent show but has slipped in last 5 years. They do get 150,000-200,000 or so attendees but many are also going to the Art Center show down the way. That show always struck me as the "sad sister" to the Chamber show. It's not a high end show for sure. And the sad kicker is that several shops and outsiders set up "also booths" to capture sales although they are not in either show. The public does not know this and probably does not care. And the Chamber & City…

I understand your concern, Jeff. It surely make sense. The person who posted the original request is someone I know. I do not know her friend. Sandi regularly posts on AFI and I have met her at shows. Please look at her website, http://www.schimmelart.com. AND I thank you for making me more aware of the possibility of a scam.
