What are the best things about art fairs
getting to connect with the buyer of your work. I love sharing it but I love connecting others to it.
Best show ever and why
Artscape at the Arboretum here in Dallas, Texas. It is a beautiful area (set amoung the spring blooms) and has very friendly staff. The crowd was huge this spring.
Worst show ever and why
Jewish Art Festival. Just wasn't a buying group and no pun intended there. The people were nice but I'm never doing it again.

Ipod with The Square?

Posted on August 25, 2012 at 5:20pm 7 Comments

Anyone out there use a Ipod Touchscreen with The Square?  I know it needs WiFi so I was wondering if it was good to use at an art fair?  I'm thinking not because of that but would like to know if anyone does use an Ipod with it and what they thought about it.

Fall Cottonwood Art Festival, Richardson, TX

Posted on October 5, 2010 at 3:38pm 5 Comments

Sorry. I don't have any pictures from the weekend. It was beautiful here in Dallas. Saturday temps were high in the low 80's, 50's at night and Sunday was 70's with lows in the 40's. Perfect weather.

240 artists. Set up in a lovely park with one middle lane for cars/vehicles at set-up and tear-down. Lanes for the booths are marked by famous artists, "Da Vinci, O'Keeffe, Wyeth etc." along the grassy park. You have a 15x15 space (plenty of room for extra in the back and between…

Frisco Art Festival, Frisco, Texas

Well, I'm new at the show reports but I did want to share my experience at Frisco Art Festival. It was held October 16th-18th in a well-to-do area of Dallas/Ft. Worth, Frisco, TX. It is mainly a young town where the average age is young 30's. Most people drive SUV's or beamers and live in new houses. I guess what I'm saying is that it had potential to be a good show if people were looking to put art into those new houses.

We were located at Newman Village an upscale housing complex… Continue

ArtFest in Dallas

Posted on May 16, 2009 at 3:50pm 2 Comments

This is my first time to do ArtFest in Dallas, TX. I am excited. I was just wondering if any of you experienced art fair artists have done it before and how has it been for you? I paint mostly Texas skies. God bless.

Dawn: Thanks for the compliment! The pix are of pieces I had taken for juries - not my usual run of work (rings and pendants) but serve as bait to get patrons into the booth, and hopefully, appeal to juries. This later is not working too well - the top tier shows go almost entirely for faceted stones in gold. Plus I just hate excessive ornamentation, multiple stones, crowded and busy design just to demonstrate expertise.

Every category has different obstacles and gripes. You, as a painter, especially in oils, have a much different course to thread between juries and sales. I am seeing less good painting at the caliber of shows I do, and have a few friends who have thrown in the brush and gone back to teaching, or, in the case of a friend who did abstract work, (18K/year, tops at shows) learned the skills to be a sucessful day trader (55K last month). Its a tough biz. Cheers, DALE
