"What are the leg systems on your tent? The older type or the newer style? What price are you looking for? Any tears, holes, stains etc? You mentioned 8' adjustabe...is it adjustable to 9'?"

"I have a Trim Line for sale. It is 8 foot and adjustable. It has canopies for the front, back and side. It also has a door opening side so the wall is divided into three zippered parts. This is a used tent but is a work horse. Great for outdoor…"

What are the best things about art fairs
Selling stuff! I get a charge out of that. I also like meeting other artists, and I enjoy the customers.
Best show ever and why
Broad Ripple Art Fair, 2012. Great show.
Worst show ever and why
54th and Monon 2008. 12 inches of rain and WAY too much lightning.

Tried this show the next year, and my next door neighbor tried to sell cookies in front of my tent! After I asked her politely to move, she leaned on my tent, and almost upset an entire shelf of pottery.

I'm not going back this year.

Interesting Words from Ann Arbor

Posted on July 27, 2014 at 8:30pm 10 Comments

I had a great time this year at Ann Arbor.  Amid the lovely, heartfelt compliments there were a few comments I "collected" and thought you all might get a chuckle out of them...

Two separate buyers assured me I shouldn't worry because my work would be "going to a good home."

A lady with a very obvious Chinese accent and a large camera pointed at my ceramic art:

"Is all of this made in the US?"

Another  lady scrutinizing the sculpted ceramic…

Question about details

Posted on September 9, 2012 at 1:01pm 1 Comment

I have a question regarding jury photos.  What do you all think about picture-in-picture details of a smaller part of the work in the photo?  Is it distracting, or does it give the jurors an opportunity to see the details of a large piece?  I make ceramic art with sculpted elements, so the whole piece is interesting, but there are details that would be missed by an overall photo.  Good or bad?  Thanks in advance for your input.

Pro Gallery Covers

Posted on November 2, 2011 at 12:57am 6 Comments

I am seriously considering investing in some mesh wall panels for my Trimline, and with the mesh panels I'm thinking of getting some Pro Gallery covers from Flourish.  Does anyone have experience with these, and possibly some photos?  The Flourish people don't have many photos to share, and I want to now more before I make the investment.  Thanks!

Insurance coverage?

Posted on October 9, 2011 at 4:08pm 5 Comments

I've checked through the blogs, and I've found a couple of companies mentioned that I plan to contact, but I welcome any other suggestions on this topic.  I'm interested in comparing a yearly insurance policy for art fairs against buying insurance for a single event.

Originally I contacted the agent who has our homeowner's policy and discovered that what State Farm offered was not only too expensive to be practical, but it also had a whopping deductible that pretty much made the…

your tent will be ok for 3rd street

Ah, good news. Thank you, Nels. On one hand I'm glad, and on the other hand I was almost hoping for an excuse to buy one that's easier to put up that I could do by myself. I'm SO looking forward to 3rd St., and I really appreciate your comments about the various sections. Basically I hoped to get into 3rd St. because basically I'm a weenie about schlepping pottery, and the thought of parking behind my booth sounds wonderful!

Do you go to Madison Chautauqua? I'm trying to judge the amount of inventory I need for 3rd St. and wondered if there was a comparison between the 2 shows. I did Chautauqua last year though, and they said it was the worst in 22 years crowd-wise. Maybe I can compare it to Penrod? I'll be new to both of the shows this year, but I have a lot of friends who have done Penrod, and I've been there as a shopper at least.

I have SO much work to do...

Thanks again.

Hi Christine. I'm glad you wrote about Penrod. I've been wondering about how it went. I'm getting ready for Riverfront By Hand this week. It will be Friday through Sunday. Busy week! Anita
