Anyone have the skinny on Vail or Prairie Village Shows?

Posted on February 13, 2013 at 1:28pm 2 Comments

Can't believe there isn't a review for Prairie Village, but hoping to hear it and Vail are good add on or in case not accepted shows, particularly for higher end 2D.  Wisdom, thoughts?  Thanks!  CL

The Best Fancy Pants Restaurant in the World is in Houston!

Posted on October 14, 2010 at 1:49pm 2 Comments

Okay -- I know you don't have the time (or the money) to splurge on 5 star cuisine, but if you are having the killer Texas show of all time in Houston, you MUST experience Tony's on Sherman. It is easily one of the best restaurants in the world, yes, the world. Get the apricot souffle if they offer it -- impossible to describe in words and unforgettable.

I did not have the killer show of all time in Houston. A quick shower, dressing up and going out on Saturday night was not what I… Continue

Eliminating award money to lower show fees

Posted on April 10, 2009 at 8:42pm 1 Comment

In these times of economic struggle and rising show expenses, we all applaud a show that reduces their jury fees -- we love this gesture and consider the show who can choose to support us in this way - progressive, innovative and compassionate.

What if the show that offers cash prizes, kept the flashy ribbons and judging aspect, and the priceless automatic reinvites, then subtracted that cash amount from the show space fees across the board for every artist thought worthy enough to… Continue

Cunningham mixed media drawing involves the intricate layering and mixing of 28 different materials, including graphite, colored pencil, watercolor, pastel, india ink, gouache, iridescent pastel, crushhed and pulverized glass, acrylic polymer, Golden gel medium, charcoal, metallic powders, iridescent interference medium, high gloss and mat acrylic fixative, conte crayon, metallic gouache, titanium dioxide coated mica, and school chalk applied to handmade watercolor paper. The deep experience with and intense attention to the nature of these materials assures both the permanence and the purity of her work. Self taught, Cunningham considers this effort, plus an ongoing study of art history, the most valuable training available in addition to countless hours of actual work. She describes such discipline as "...the clarity of experience."

Cunnngham juxtaposes realism with the intimate and emotional cues of the surreal. Images are rendered directly from dreams and the vagaries of everyday life. The subjects of her dream work are particularly very period specific. This insight generates an extraordinary exchange of passion between the viewer and art. It also contributes to the enormous mystery of her work.

These unusual pieces are highly prized in museum, private and corporate collections world wide, as well as heavily awarded in major American exhibitions. Cunningham prefers to deal with her collectors personally and for this reason is not represented by galleries or dealers.

When asked what is her proudest achievement, the artist's answer is immediate; "Most of my collectors own at least two pieces, usually more. To me this is the highest honor any artist can receive beyond the satisfaction that comes from accomplishing the work itself. It indicates the collector has formed more than just an appreciation for the subject of a particular work. It means a connection to the spirit of the work as a whole has taken place. In my world, there is no finer thing."

Thank you so much, Cynthia, for joining my new venture. I really have high hopes that it can fulfill important networking needs among artists and hope it will be an important economic force in the days to come.

I just posted on my blog about a call in program on Friday where you can get answers to online marketing questions. I was so surprised about the problem with your website not being googled so I could find it. It might be worth your while to call in to the program and see if you can get an answer to this. Or, it could have just been me!
