I am new to the Artshow world, in fact, 2019 will be my first season. I am in California so the number of shows available is limited compared to other areas of the country. I am a photographer and I think my work would do well in Arizona,…Continue

Yes we a lll have different experiences. For me Friday was above average, Saturday was very good being twice Friday, and Sunday was poor being half of Friday. I came to this show expecting it to be my last time at Tempe. It has always been one of the most stressful and expensive shows I do. I have a tall double trimline tent and a massive amount of inventory, so my set up time is very long. I am lucky to get 2 or 3 hours sleep on set up night, making Friday pretty grueling. I have a large truck and trailer that is difficult to get through the show, so I push over 2000 lbs of stuff from the closest parking place I can find. In the past sales numbers have been ok for a easier show but barely worth it for me considering the difficulty of this one. This time I did better than previous times and and will consider doing it again, just not this spring as they moved it back 2 weeks into April, conflicting with other less stressful shows I have done for years.

Glad to see this group is back. We're rethinking our spring shows, not sure we want to even try Tucson again after this past weekend.  Has anyone done the Downtown Burbank Arts Fest in CA?

Ruth-- Sorry, I haven't done the Burbank show (although I've looked at it). I think it's a West Coast Artist show? I've worked with them and they are a solid organization. I only caution you to look at demographics and attendance numbers. Some of their shows are better attended than others. I participated in one of the Palm Springs area, but not Palm Springs shows and it was really well run, but no customers.

Bill-- I noticed the date switch up.  Tucson and Tempe are just beasts for set up, especially if you can't shorten the way and do it early in the morning.  I'm in for Tempe Spring, but wait listed for Woodlands. I'd switch in a heartbeat. Ha!

Hi guys- thanks Ruth. I'm back. I think I caught up with the reading. I agree w many on Tempe. I had an amazing Fri. But Sat and Sunday I pretty much could have not even opened my tent. I was on 6th street due to WL and it had an easy set up/tear down and good traffic flow. BUT the art(?) in this area was lower quality. I was grateful that the sponsor did not show up next to me. And the direct TV people down a few spaces weren't too awful. I had really high hopes on Friday and thought it could've been a best Tempe ever but no. Nope it didt go that way. Shrug. So I don't know what could've been different. Maybe location but I don't think that would've helped. There were lots of people, well heeled too but they were casual lookers or didn't look at all (Diana).

I'm really enjoying all the comments. I've been away of the area for about five years (spent the last five in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin), so other than Celebration of Fine Art from January through March, my experience has been [mostly] with the Chicagoland shows and a few Texas thrown in for good measure. I'm just getting back in the swing of things here in AZ, and boy has the circuit changed. The recession effect, I guess.

Margaret Arden. I did not apply to Spring Tempe (it's way too late in the Spring). I was WL at Woodlands too (my only hint at a spring show) so when I found out I was #14 I cracked up! So for me to get a call the original Jeweler plus 13 more would have to back out. Ha ha ha just tell me I'm not invited. :-p. Like I said it will be an interesting 2016.

Diana how was Hidden in the Hills for you? (Local studio tour guys, sorry) I have a great studio but was down another $1k in sales. So not sure I'll participate in 2016. It was soft for several I know and certainly for 4 of 5 artists at studio 38.
