I am new to the Artshow world, in fact, 2019 will be my first season. I am in California so the number of shows available is limited compared to other areas of the country. I am a photographer and I think my work would do well in Arizona,…Continue

Hey Everyone! Back from round 1 of Midwest and East Coast shows. Mulvane in Topeka was really good, Three Rivers in Pittsburgh on target, so good (although hotels were more expensive this year-- Stanley Cup anyone???). MOCA Boardwalk in VA Beach was a parade of Boobs, and Des Moines, Artfest Midwest the Other show a break even, couldn't even get folks to try things on kind of show. I hit the road like my rear end was on fire at the end of that one.

I'll be heading back East for State College, than cross country to Washington State for Richland (no expectations) and Anacortes (high hopes).  Will be at Golden and Bodega in August. Then I might check into a mental hospital for a nice week or two rest!!!!!

Get news about Tempe? Glad to see whats her name out of there. Hopefully this will be a good change for the festival. Last time I walked it, it was getting pretty bad in quality.

Brian, i think you analysis of tempe is completely wrong, Jeanette has nothing to do with the quality of the show, the quality was not bad but it has to do with the quality of the jury who let us into the show. I do not think it is great news you are entitled to you opinion

MMargaret,  we'll be in Richland with you, weird year thus far, attributing that to election year.  First time we've come back to Richland in 3 years, but we have reasonable expectations, for us this has been in our best 2 day shows twice in 11 years,, took a break after hearing "I bought this last year or 3 years ago",  hoping after a 3 year absence that our new pieces will bring us back☺☺  We keep remembering a line out of our booth,  1k Friday AM start, record sales in 2011, and being optimistic the we have a chance to experience that again.  Don't  blow this off, a community  of highly paid government employees in a very inexpensive cost of living part of WA.  You won't find me here in the winter, but love the summers.  Arriving a week early to visit the local wineries ☺

Mindy, don't know what Margaret thought but I was there and did very poorly. I had several people in my booth that asked why I  was there, they said this was supposed to be the cheap show and the expensive show was downtown.  Most I talked to said they did very poorly or had zero sales.  Painter next to me sold zero, high end jeweler across from me did not do well, jeweler next to me did okay.  Think the promoter is trying to upscale this shows but the area people don't know it yet. It should have been a good show being indoors with A/C and temps in the  90's, high humidity but traffic just was not there.

Des Moines--

Mindy- I had a good Saturday, but zeroed on Sunday, so the average was not good. As a jeweler, it's pretty hard for me to zero on a day. And that speaks to income and price points, since there was plenty of access. I think painters have zero days or over the moon days, but my business is slow math adding up to make a living. I have a bracelet style that I use to gauge my shows-- and this was a one bracelet show. By comparison, earlier this year Scottsdale was an 18 bracelet show. In my estimation, the buying energy was expended downtown on Friday, at this "the other show" on Saturday and only bucket of cookie eaters on Sunday. I also don't think the economy has recovered as completely as we are being told. I've been on more Main Streets this year than the politicians.

Robert-- Sorry to have missed you! I like the "Other" Des Moines organization, but perhaps they need to implement a "Friends of the Others" patron program?? Draw specific buying energy to the show-- not just, "so glad not to be outside" energy.

All of that being said, I would give this show another try or two-- I usually give something three strikes before I write it off. Saturday was a good day and shows potential. Of course-- getting into the downtown show is the way to go for sure?? I give the quality of the show an 89% (low price point beaded jewelry gets under my skin) and indoors with plumbing is AMAZING!!!

Ruth-- Thanks for chatting up Richland! It's sort of my protest vote for the Bellevue shows. The Richland pricing structure is irresistible in these economic times. Boy could we go on about those Bellevue shows for a while, eh? Anyway, I think Richland has potential and look forward to sales--- I just don't have any expectations. I'm entering into it with a "don't know mind and an open heart". Ya know? I also look forward to meeting you in person!!! I'm also not saying my sister and I won't go to the wineries (she is my special guest on a cross country drive from Central PA to Richland and beyond)-- what happens in Richland, stays in Richland??

Mindy, yes I believe it has a good reputation, I think the promoter works very hard to put on a good show. It was my first time there as were many I talked to. I won't do it again as it is a 6 hr drive for me from Lake Geneva with 3 night's lodging and meals so to expensive with low sales. Love the A/C, easy load in, load out and good parking however.  I see you live in FH, just purchased a place in Rio this spring and planning on spending Nov thru Apr in AZ. Did the great fair this year with zip in sales so won't be doing that show again but thinking on Tempe & Tucson and maybe some CA shows. Any suggestions, did the Sonoran Carefree show this year and last year, did okay and will do next year.

Margaret, sorry to have missed you also, maybe another show.
