I received an email invitation.

I did get an invitation from Richard Sherer to join the group. Thanks, Dick. I'm a Colorado artist (wildlife photographer) exhibiting mostly in Colorado.

Yes, Richard also invited me.  I have not traveled to the SW yet to do shows, and joined hoping to learn more about shows to travel to in the winter months.  I'm in Montana.

Question: Scottsdale Arts Festival or Rio Grande Spring Show?

Comment by Brian Billings on December 7, 2015 at 11:09am

@Margaret, I hear nothing but great things from the Scottsdale Arts festival, especially from the fine artists. I have not done this show yet as it is very hard to get in. I do attend each year and seems to be very few new artists each year.

Thanks for responding @Brian! I'm outside of Tucson, AZ, so Scottsdale seems like the easier choice. I paid almost as soon as I was invited, since I didn't count my Rio Grande chances as very high.  I've been applying to both shows for the past three years and find the irony of being invited to both over the top. I've heard nothing but lovely things about Ruth and her ABQ crew. So conflicted, would love to do both events, but sadly, this plane of existence is one place, one time. Maybe I should focus on creating a temporal warping machine??

Good job, Barrie. Yep, that is how we get this going again. Invite others, even members who weren't in the original group ...

I did not get an email from you, Barrie ;)

Think they made a big mistake removing this group! Glad it's back. Steve told me about it, no email.

So first show review, sorta. I have decided not to do the Tempe show this year and everyone was asking me why. Sales go down each year in the past 4 years and so has the quality. I have paintings that sell up to $4k so my clientele is a little different. I did walk the show and got to visit with Steve and Kay, good seeing you guys. My wife and I were observing the quality and thought I made a good decision. Not a great pic but their selling NFL Tissue box covers for $15. I also saw a computer painter near Kay that had construction netting wrapped around his booth and had a price range of $10-$65. This show is becoming more like Fountain Hills. Not that people will not buy high end art at these shows, but I think it's much harder when you are next to booths like this!

Tissue box covers.
