Hi. I was at a show yesterday and it was hot and windy. One side of the tent bars started to fall in. I bought the tent at a sporting good store and lasted about two years. I think it is time to get a new tent. Where should I buy one and do not want to spend a lot but spending more money will get you a better tent right. Sams club had an E-Z Up tent for $197.00. Is that a good deal or should I order one online. What about Caravan tents and have you use them. I saw some e-z up tents at hut shop around 250.00. One thing is I need it by Friday because I have a show on Saturday. Please help and let me know where you bought your tent. Thanks Wendy

  • This was 6+ years ago. I wonder if she's still doing shows.

    • She's posted a few times since then was and active on here in December, so I would say she's still doing shows.

  • Thanks for all who gave there input. I was looking at Caravan tents but Costco did not have any. Since most of the reviews online did not like E-Z up I ended up with a Undercover tent from Lowe’s. They have the beams in the middle and sides. We will see what happens. This is a good tent for now since I needed it by Saturday. I will look on line for a better tent to have down the road. \
    Thanks again,
    Wendy

I would not purchase anything from Sam's Club or WalMart. As for EZ UP We had to screw our Craft Hut down this weekend to keep it stable. The EZ UPs blew up in the air crashed into building walls taking art work with them. Others with the EZ UPs had ropes attached to the center cluster of tubes and held on. Several others with the dreaded expensive heavy canopies expressed dismay when the booth next to them was an EZ UP.

  • Hi Wendy, I had a craft hut for years, but as I've gotten older it's just became too hard for me to set up. So a few years ago I bought an ez up at Sam's club. I'm very happy with it. I can set it up myself so I don't have to depend on any one else to help me. I have heavy weights (I made myself with fence posts) on each corner and have never had a problem, even with heavy wind and rain at Ann Arbor a couple years ago. I'm getting ready to do Kohler in a few weeks so I'm setting it up, cleaning it off and using spray sealent so that is won't leak. I know a lot of people don't like ez-up's, but I've been happy with it.

  • Wendy,

Don't rush into getting a canopy! I got one from EZ-UP from Sam's and it was the worst mistake of my life. Please see my post on Death To my EZ-UP, recently posted, on why I feel the way I do about those sold through Sam's Club. Hint - those sold at said place(s) are of the cheapest thinest metal - not sturdy at all - you would be be waisting your money!!! There are some testimonials about those who use canopies from other companies... - Michelle
  • Personally, I like the Caravan that I got from Costco for around the $200 price (maybe $209??). Last year at the Ocean View Art Show we had a steady wind. Several tents went down and I think they were all EZ-ups. My Caravan held steady. At least 3 of the EZ-up users bought Caravans to replace them.

To keep my tent square and steady I use Sta-Bars from Fourish.Com. I use the upper Sta-bar and put it about the middle of my walls. I also use steel gridwall which helps with weight and rigidity.

    Good Luck
  • I know that you need a canopy by Friday so an EZUP (also known as EZDOWN) will work in a pinch. I bought one from Sam's Club several years ago for around $200. That being said, I have had 2 EZUPS collapse in bad weather / wind. Get yourself a really nice canopy (Craft Hut, Light Dome, etc.) EZUPs are not really made for extended use / strong weather. They are more suited for backyard parties, tail-gate parties, parking lot beer fests, etc. I purchased my Light Dome from Creative Energies last year (www.lightdomecanopies.com.) I bought what was called a "blemished" canopy - it was about $100 off the list price. The only thing I saw that may have been wrong was the end of one of the top support poles was a little dented in. A pair of pliers fixed that...

I have since purchased a "stabilizing bar system" which attaches to 3 sides on the bottom, keeping the canopy frame more square. I believe the whole set-up cost me around $1,000. Worth the piece of mind. Granted, no canopy will survive everything the weather dishes up, but after having 2 EZDOWNS totalled, I speak from experience. I've had my Light Dome for a year now and it's been through some bad weather. The light it lets in is very luminous, makes my cloisonne enamel work zing with color. And it's water proof. The top to my EZUPs were "water resistant" - they dripped in on my display when saturated by a good, all day rain.

  • No! Don't buy it unless you're okay with buying a new cheapie for each fair. It will not last very long unless you're incredibly lucky to only show in sunny breezeless weather.
