Well, since my shows have now ended for the year I'm working out my schedule for next year.  I'm hoping to add more shows to my show schedule for next year, but have run into an issue I've not had before.

When looking up shows to possibly apply to for next year I saw that some have split the jewelry category into Jewelry: precious, Jewelry: Non-precious, and sometimes Jewelry: Other.  The issue I'm having is this, I specialize in historical inspiration and use a wide range of materials in my work including precious metals, non-precious metals, and even some Steampunk/upcycling on occasion so I'm not sure what category I'm supposed to pick when applying to such shows or if they would require me to apply to more than one of them if I want to display all of what I make.  Has anyone else had this issue?  What should I do for the shows that split the category?  I don't want to have to choose between displaying only part of what I do by having to choose between precious or non-precious, and am also not sure if there is an additional charge for applying to multiple categories as I've not had to deal with this issue before

Also, my apologies if I've posted this in the wrong section.  I wasn't sure where to ask this.

  • Thanks for the help!  When I get my short list made up of shows I'm interested in applying to I'll give them a call.

  • I usually apply in non precious because I have  sterling silver, copper/sterling, and beadwoven pieces.  A couple shows I applied in both but it does cost two jury fees.

  • Good question, Laura, and I second Lori's answer. Don't be hesitant to call.

I used to run a show that split the jewelry category into three sub categories. We expected to see gold and stones and maybe silver in the precious category, non-precious would be other metals and other was always fun to see: fimo, cord, found object, buttons, clay, etc.

    No apologies necessary.

  • call the shows and ask which catagory is best for you
