Mat/backing/bags

I have found several good sources for matting prints of photographs. Price is almost double for going the archival route. Just wondering how much damage and soon would it be if I don't use archival, and what the odds are that someone doesn't want to re-mat to their own tastes and specifications. I know this is tough to answer as there are many variables. I guess making it known that I've used archival or AF materials would help justify in buyers' minds that the cost is worth it?

I have done a search on here but haven't seen anyone who's used eNasco for 6-ply mats and backing. Seems like a decent price for 6-ply but they are not being advertised as AF and there is no clear bag included. I read somewhere that the 6-ply is easier to work with as it is not so flimsy. This has been the only place I have found it.

This looks reasonably priced, but again, not archival or AF that I can tell. Golden State Art

Includes the bags and is 4-ply.

By comparison, comparable size at Redimat is $79 for archival and $49 for non-archival.

Then there's ClearBags and with all the dropdown choices, that is just too many decisions. Trying to stay cheap still got me to over $100 but did included hinging tape.

Guess my question is, I would like to hear if anyone has tried the above items with the links and if they have been happy. Thanks. :-)

  • I decided to go with Golden State Art through Amazon. I am a Prime member and qualified for free shipping. Shipping on my Redimat order of $24.95 added a whopping $15.69. No thanks.
