Haven't gotten one of these in a while, but the wording is so similar to ones I've gotten in the past. Don't fall for it.

Hi,

I'm Betty Hammond from California. I was going through your works and my eyes caught this particular piece,I want to purchase it as I am moving to a new apartment next month. Kindly let me know if you still have the piece available and also let me know it's final price and more information about it. I will be waiting to read from you.

Regards, Betty.

She even listed the specific piece in the subject of the email. However, the suspicious wording is....'my eyes caught this particular piece...' and the whole business about moving. Past scam emails all have these particular characteristics.

If you just google "my eyes caught this particular piece" (yes, use the quotes), you'll find lots of references to this scam.

  • Thanks, Michael, for posting this. It is so flattering to receive these missives and we can get caught up in them. I remember preparing work for a "big" sale and then it didn't go anywhere.
