  • East Coaster here, Maine is my bailiwick!! Most shows here are Festival types, with a few ART fairs or Art Walks for rounding out. I greatly appreciate the fact that we have stiffer "open container" and drinking in public laws here. Some of the stories I have seen here.....let's just say New England is a bit more.... parochial (but better, I think- No drunken wanderers!!) Weather can be a bit chancy, and outdoor season doesn't start til late May- through mid October. But all in all, it's good!

    • Hey, Karole!  Yes, I always marvel at the stories of festivals down south where there's a lot of drinking going on. Iffy, for sure.  How many shows do you do in a season?  I'm pretty busy this year.

      • Hey Janet!

I usually manage 25-40 shows a year during the season April - Dec....outdoor shows May- Oct, about 15.

I do Biddeford's Artwalk once a month- love that guaranteed once monthly gig! I once did Topsham Fair- for an entire week in August- That was GREAT!! Although I am finding that my 47 y/o body is NOT so fond of tent camping!! Chilly at night, and if there are party peeps in the vicinity, not a lot of sleep. I plan to work my business model around in the next couple of years so that I can just do week long fairs...set-up and tear down once each for a solid week, good sales, but my medium ALWAYS sells- I'm in jewelry, so perfect for the Fairs, festivals, and day shows. I do a lot of craft fairs in my area, year round, but most of my shows are July thru Dec.  Last season every show I did outside got rain and thunderstorms with wind and hail....hoping for better weather this season!! My tent finally leaked last year after three years of use, so gotta get that waterproofed at a boat shop before packing it away this season. I would really like to find more shows where my dog would be welcome- she hates being left with the "old man" while Mom goes out to play!

        • Oh, how I pray for good weather this summer. I just got back into shows late last summer, and was lucky. We don't have to sleep on the ground because we have a little popup trailer. With a little wine, earplugs, and being exhausted, I expect to sleep just fine no matter what!  Really can't wait for the Bar Harbor Show August 10-11. I've done Camden, Boothbay, etc. but never there before. Maybe there will be a cruise ship docked!

          • The Bar Harbor show will be great!! I've never done it as an Artist/Crafter, but grew up about  10 miles away, on the mainland, in Ellsworth!! I attended one show there, at the College of the Atlantic....I want to do that one next year!! We vacationed there for 10 days last July with my in laws from Mass. I loved being "back home" again. Bar harbor hops in the summer, particularly July and August!! You will have a great time!! There are also several great camp grounds in the area, we stayed on "the quiet side" last July.

  • Hi Janet and welcome aboard :)

    • Thanks, Annette!

  • Welcome, Janet. We're glad you are here. We need input from the East coast shows and look forward to hearing about them.

    • Thanks for the welcome--I listen to your radio shows and really enjoy them.  I'm signed up for 13 shows this season, (Maine, New Hampshire, Mass, Conn. and NY) and will try to report on all of them.
