To do so, we need to use a payment service provider, such as Stripe or Square. Does anyone have any feedback on which is best for outdoor fine art fair purchases? Please provide the name of the services and any pros and cons.
The email only said that I should change my password, which I did- to everything that I have that has that password.

I wanted to warn others in case this could happen to you.

NOW I'm thinking that the hackers had access to lots of customer's credit card info so I plan to contact square about this.

Anyone else ever heard of this?

And, please be watchful everyone. Never thought about all of the info that is on that site!

I did a show over last weekend, went to square site today and see that I must verify my business. They have all of my funds on hold from last weekend's show with no explanation, and no instructions on how to fill out this form.

I have not received any emails from them and no other info.

When I called the number I have for Square, it says that I am not set up to have phone help.

I emailed and got a response that it may take up to 3 days for them to get back to me,

Anyone else- ever?

Thank you!

Edition number trackinghttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/edition-number-tracking2018-04-28T20:46:17.000Z2018-04-28T20:46:17.000ZLarry Sohnhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/members/LarrySohn

Primarily photographers and possibly painters might have an answer.

ALL of my work is done in limited editions, for any one particular Art work.

I am looking for a system to track edition numbers, for my copies, in my inventory.

I already, hand sign EVERY print, with the edition #:

Example: 3/250 or 5/100 etc.

I also put this in the COA that accompanies the Art work.

This allows me to keep it with the art work. Then at point of sale, I can enter it into the receipt.

However, when working in my shop, I would like to know what the edition number, that I've reached, is. Then I can number the new piece accordingly. It is very important I keep this accurate.

I know I can go back through the receipts to see what sells, however that is not efficient.

Although I am not an advocate of Square, it is what I use at POS.

However I do not find a good way to input that data into the inventory, prior to shows.

Example: I might be bring 5 copies of one particular art piece to a show... 11/250, 12/250, 18/250, 19/250 & 24/250.

I would have to create new items, for every edition, instead of just an inventory count.

I am not proficient with Square, mostly because I don't like it, so I don't want to learn it better :-)

I've talked with the Square support people. Mostly useless.

Anybody have a good system?

In Square would help, however I'm up for other ideas.

This is not a matter of just a few pieces. I have a fairly large inventory.

If the only solution entails they be in consecutive integers, I can handle that by just hand doing the, out of order ones, until I'm back to sequential.

When they came out I got one and found it didn't work with my old smart phone. Had to upgrade the OS, and then it worked periodically. At that time it wasn't mandatory to use the chip and it was still working off and on. Year before last I got a new S5 and the combo reader would work for one or two attempts and then nothing. (I've two old readers as backup.) Bought a new combo reader last fall and this year it's acting like the other one. That is: With it fully charged, I'll start the register, insert the reader and wait for it to connect and then read one of my chip cards for a $1 charge. An hour or two later, it won't do anything and the register says it's still connected.

I've contacted Square multiple times, but always get their canned response first followed by a second canned one (charge them, check you OS, uninstall & reinstall, bla, bla, bla), and then complete silence when I ask them if these things ever work reliably. I've done what their canned responses ask multiple times as well.

Bottom line; has anyone actually had these things work reliably for a whole day?

Buying a second chip readerhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/buying-a-second-chip-reader2016-11-08T15:10:59.000Z2016-11-08T15:10:59.000ZJudy Christianhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/members/JudyChristian

Since we are talking about the square in another thread, I wondered- did everyone get a second chip reader for a backup?

Everything worked fine, and I want to thank everyone for discussing things here.

Every card that we took was with the chip reader.

How would I NOT use the chip reader and process if I needed? When my husband tried to put a chip card through using the mag stripe, square said "no."

Would the chip reader need to be disconnected for that?

Just curious.

Thanks so much!

I've been an extremely happy Square user for three years. Sure, they take their cut, but it's relatively painless. With Amazon I saw the fees were lower, so of course I thought "Why not!" and ordered a card reader. Signed up, entered all my information, and waited to give it a go.

I tried it once, for a $500 local sale, a special order. And I have yet to see a dime. First I could not verify my account on their app -- it has a couple of bugs. Called customer support, and they were very nice and quick to help suggest what to do. I verified my bank account via faxing my statement to Amazon.

I still can't get my money out of them. They have a 14 day hold on everything. And add to that, they now say that "after 100 transactions there will no longer be a hold." Excuse me? I have supplies to order NOW. I have bills to pay NOW. I can't get my cash from them as it is, and they want me to hit it 100 more times? I think not.

Just my .02 -- your experience may vary. But you can tell, I'm frustrated. Square is going to keep getting my business.

Another square questionhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/another-square-question2014-06-06T14:49:07.000Z2014-06-06T14:49:07.000ZJudy Christianhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/members/JudyChristian

I'll be completely set up eventually.

Ok to do, or a big no-no?

I just got a square card reader, and I can't get it to swipe for the life of me. I have tried several of my own cards, and after many tries one or two go through, but then they won't again. I have swiped every way possible, fast and slow, always smoothly and evenly, but it doesn't work. I have a brand new Motorola Razr and the Square is brand new too. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling (twice), turned the phone off and on, taken the cover off, wiped the device. I had the same issue with the same card reader on my old phone as well. (That phone died soon after I got the card reader.)

I am at an art fair now, and I have been keying in the credit cards. Does it sound like I have a defective card reader, and that buying a new one might fix the problem?
