Now as an art show exhibitor, I'm starting to see the other side of this coin. I use Square to process payments at shows. These new credit cards require a different Square reader. It's larger than the pocket-sized readers we've all been using for the past few years and it costs $49, which Square says it will reimburse within the first 3 months of processing fees. I don't know why they won't simply offer these new readers for free like they have with their old readers, but the bigger concern here is the shift in fraud liability. The cost of fraudulent card use will no longer be shouldered by the banks, but is now shifted to us merchants.

Paypal is advertising their version, and I already accept Paypal on my website, just wondering if anyone has tried them out as a merchant service provider. They're advertising a "$30 a month flat fee, one flat % rate for all cards" which sounds...well, I'm not sure. I've gone through 2 merchant service providers, I'm really annoyed by the way I have to be RIGHT ON TOP of every statement because they "slip up" on some part of our contract, it seems. Anyone try them?

ProPayhttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/forum/topics/propay-12010-09-02T19:22:52.000Z2010-09-02T19:22:52.000ZSandy Giulianihttps://www.artfairinsiders.com/members/SandyGiuliani

Before I sign up for this -- any PROS and/or CONS? Many times I don't have the money right now - but will, say by the end of a week or month, but want to get into a show before the deadline (and of course money is due when you apply).
I get that it probably isn't worth it for shows that are around a $50 -$75 mark, but those above $100 should, in my opinion, at least give it a shot - offering credit card as an additional form of payment. Am I the only one who thinks this way? - Michelle
