Does gesso re-hydrate once dry?

Stuck at home, more time to work on projects that are not what I usually do!

This is not  a painting, but I used gesso and modeling paste to coat a 3D project to achieve a totally smooth surface.

I just sanded it down to be smooth. But I’d like to wipe it off with a damp rag to get the rest of the dust off before any further painting and acrylic / latex coatings.  It was SO much work I don’t want to risk softening it.

Thanks!

  • No, gesso and modeling paste are permanent once dry. Neither will re-activate or rehydrate like watercolor, gouache or poster paint (tempera).
