Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
It is with great sadness that we announce the cancellation of Lakeshore Art Festival 2020 due to health concerns over COVID-19. While we did spend a great deal of time considering safe and healthy ways to host the show this year, as well as alternative dates and possible virtual events, what it came down to is the safety of our exhibitors, guests, volunteers and community.
If we have a current signed contract with you for 2020, we will need to get in touch in the coming days to figure out how to move forward. If you should have any questions during this time, please feel free to email the show director, Carla Flanders at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Cancelled: Art on the Grand, a juried art fair along Grand River Avenue, was usually held the first weekend of June in Farmington, Michigan. You can view the 2020 artists on their site here https://www.artonthegrand.com/.
58th Wickford Art Festival in Rhode Island, scheduled for July 11 & 12 is cancelled. Due to the governor’s restrictions on social gatherings and the COVID-19 crisis, the Wickford Art Association is not willing to risk the safety of the artists, festival-goers, volunteers and staff.
Update on Colorado cancellations:
5-30-2020 - Kings Mountain Art Fair in Woodside just cancelled. Will do virtual. Below is their email:
At the regularly scheduled Art Fair Board meeting on May 26, the Art Fair Board sadly but unanimously voted to cancel our physical fair this year. But the Board also voted to vigorously explore producing a Virtual Fair.
What would a Virtual Kings Mountain Art Fair be? Is it possible? We know it is from looking at other Fairs but of course if KMAF does it, we want it to be the best and to really support you as artists in the process. We have all kinds of ideas and June will be our month to explore the feasibility of those ideas.
Our goals are:
We gave ourselves the month of May to see if the pandemic-related conditions had improved enough to make it safe to have the Fair. Although some things are “opening up,” we are still living in a world of social distancing (6 feet apart) and restrictions on events that involve large numbers of people. It is likely that an event of our size (thanks to everyone who makes our Fair SO supported) will not be allowed; and even if it were, we worry it would not be well attended, nor well staffed by volunteers, as fears understandably linger. Health experts warn that there will likely be outbreaks this summer and fall because of the strength of the virus and the lack of compliance with rules about social distancing and other anti-covid-19 actions. We cannot take the chance that our Art Fair in the redwoods would become a site for the spreading of this exceptionally contagious and often lethal virus. We did not feel that we could keep everyone safe – artists, customers and volunteers – so on to planning a virtual Fair!
We will be in touch soon with updates on what that might involve for you. When we have more information, you will be asked if you are willing to participate in the Virtual Fair. June is our month to study the feasibility of doing this KMAF Kings Mountain style.
In the meantime, it will be important to update your websites and web connections. Our offer still stands that if you do not wish to participate this year, we will refund your entry fee. Also, please send any ideas you might have about how to set up, structure and/or operate a virtual art fair. Your suggestions are welcomed.

Long’s Park, scheduled for 9/4, has been cancelled.
The 25th West End Arts Festival in La Grange, IL, scheduled for September 12 & 13, is cancelled. Due to COVID, there are many new restrictions and too many unknowns, especially in Illinois. They did not collect any booth fees thus far, so there are no refunds to process.
Just got the posting on Facebook - the Saginaw Michigan Old Town Art Fair has been cancelled for the year. This ends my season - hope something good comes in 2021!
Long's Park Art Festival, September 4-6 in Lancaster, PA, is cancelled. This show has consistently been in the Top Ten of our annual Best Art Fairs survey.
“But as the event draws closer, we’re quickly losing ground on the ability to provide the same caliber show people are expecting, while also having no clear direction about whether Lancaster will be allowed to host large gatherings by September.”
Annually, the Art Festival welcomes 11,000 visitors from around the country to Long’s Park. Though we are deeply disappointed to share this news, we acknowledge our social responsibility to ensure the public safety of our community."
Golden, Colorado just cancelled. As they had not yet started jurying, they are offering refunds of Jurying fees.
I am donating mine; they are a non-profit that barely squeaks by, they need the $35 more than I do
