Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals
I received 2 emails overnight that look like spam/fishing/etc and wanted to check to see if anyone else got them. I have attached a copy below but have removed the show name with **Show Name**. I am 99% sure it is a scam and will try to flush it out a bit.
Reasons why it could be a scam:
- No company info anywhere
- No indication they are with the show
- Show was not conducting any surveys or other information collection method, to my knowledge, so how did they get them?
- Very easy to replicate email with the show name/count as a variables
- These variables are bolded
**** Edit ****
Many people have reported this scam in other forums. Just stay away.

Another scammer out there, says his wife saw your work online and loves it, wants to buy a piece. Says he is a sailing engineer. When you look up his name, there is a persoby that name. After a few correspondences, this is what you get;
Yep. They give you fake funds and you give them money.
My most recent is the one about the porn they've caught me watching on my laptop ...
i placed a malware on the X vids (porno) web-site and you know what, you visited this web site to experience fun (you know what i mean). When you were viewing videos, your internet browser initiated working as a Remote control Desktop that has a keylogger which provided me with accessibility to your screen as well as web cam. Just after that, my software program collected all of your contacts from your Messenger, FB, and email . after that i created a double-screen video. 1st part shows the video you were watching (you have a fine taste hahah), and 2nd part displays the recording of your web camera, yeah its you.
But if I make a payment of $969 with Bitcoin I won't have to worry about being exposed ...
And this one also:
FINAL WARMING!! (Your mailbox is almost full.)!

As it was said above -- Never, never "click here" or respond.
LOL! I just saw the subject line is "Final Warming!!" That should also be a clue.
Nothing like threatening with a blackmail payment!
Have not we all heard the expression:
"A fool and his money are soon parted"?
I am aware, many fall for these scams. I am unaware how so many can be so gullible.
First, apply some logic.
Second, do a bit of investigating.
Third, apply common sense.
Most scams feed on people's greed. Those are the easiest ones to recognize.
Ones like these are targeted better but still easily debunked.
However expecting this from most people is foolish...
...look at our elections ;-)
BTW, from someone with significant IT background, almost EVERY system can be hacked, eventually.
Very rarely are these scams due to hacked systems.
One of the phone calls I received from "Microsoft Security" about how my system was hacked. I kept the scammer on the phone for 30 minutes before he realized I was jerking him around.
I kept one on the line for a while. He had me going through keystrokes (I was faking it), then I was asked what type of computer I had. I told him it was a Commodore 64, It still took him a few moments to realize he had been had.
Connie, I received that same scam email yesterday. I Never open an email from someone I do not know ..especially since i do not do business with ATT... It is important to use anti-spam and anti virus protection software. My Junk email button is a well used feature of my computer
