I've applied to both the original and State Street art fairs. I have never done the Ann Arbor Show, but have been strongly encouraged to try it. I'm not even sure if I will get in to either show, but want to know which show is considered more desirable? Any thoughts??

If it makes a difference. I sell acrylic floral paintings...www.internalbloom.com

  • Anymore it doesn't make a big difference, although your location in either show could contribute to your success. As a first-timer you don't have a lot of choice on that though. The Street Art Fair has always been the most prestigious, although not necessarily the biggest crowds, but it is #1 on the serious buyers list to visit. When you hear from them and you have a choice of booth location get back to us here because collectively we have lots of information on the best place for you to be.

I agree with Larry, do whichever you get in. These shows will teach you a lot about this business and is a part of your "Master's in Art Fairs."

    • Thank you, Connie!  I have been hesitant to apply, but feel I just should. My biggest (and best overall) art fair is Plymouth Art In The Park, which is the weekend before. As a single mom, I have been hesitant to try to do another large show with only a couple days to recover. I don't want to give up Plymouth as it is always my best show, but need to increase my visibility and potential income. I can't do a lot of shows each year, so I need to make the ones that I do count.

I appreciate your advice and will certainly get back to you guys once I hear.

  • I wouldn't worry about it. Just do which ever you get accepted to. There's very little chance of getting both and you can always ask then.

You can always join the Michigan Guild and have a third option. There's a way to get into the Guild portion of the show at the last minute. It's called the emergency waiting list but once committed, you have to be there ready to set up within 24 hours proceeding the start of the show.
