Call for Artists, Making Money at Juried Art Fairs, Craft Shows and Festivals

The band's playing, but no one's dancing: How did everyone do Jan. 21-22 ???

Three shows that I know of this weekend just in Florida: Hot Works' Boca Raton show, and Howard Alan's shows in Indiatlantic and Delray Beach.

Anyone want to get the ball rolling with a writeup on their show?  Make it brief if you must; others will fill in the gaps.

Hmm, Geoff, no responses.   Those of us up here in the opposite corner of the country are still digging out of snow, ice, downed trees and power lines.  I was hoping to hear reports of sunshine in Florida, even if it did turn me green with envy, I was at least hoping someone was out there having fun and making money.

I did the Delray Beach Art Festival, weather was perfect, big crowds as Howard advertises very well. Sat the crowd seemed to be in a buying mood we did pretty well for the day. Sunday again the crowds were out but spending less. Overall it was a descent show. Breakdown was very smooth with staff on site directing traffic.

I had a painter friend (large canvases, very colorful stuff) who sold 2 big works and was happy.

Thanks for chiming in, Steve!  Appreciated.  What's your medium?

I was at the HA show. The weather was picture perfect. Crowds were solid. My sales about 15% this less than last yr. Felt that people who bought were di
scerning and specific about their purchases. They had a specific spot for their purchase and there was all but no frivolous buying. I observed this same buying pattern last Fall up North as well.

Great show! Was our second best last year in the state of fl. We were down about 1200 this year due to the fact that we didn't have that "one" sale. This was a show where we sell tons of smaller items in the 35- 65 price points. We had some storage behind our booths and I was even able to put one extra panel deep behind my booth. For a HA show set up and take down were as easy as it could get. Most of Howard's artists just understand that you must break down completely before getting your vehicle........all artists should take note! We got a call from a customer on Monday who decided they needed to decorate a main wall so we are now only down 500 from last year! We are hanging the work for them tomorrow so their is always that possibility for add on sales. Delray also has amazing choices for a variety of dining options. Our fav. Is Deck 84 right on the intercostal nice breeze, great boat views, great drink and food specials and we even saw a pair of manatees!

I was at the Indialantic Show - also one of HA.   It's a small show and the artistic quality was good to excellent. There weren't many people but the ones there were buying.  I was surprised that most bought with cash which is great since iPhone (for the Square) internet access does not exist there.  I just lost one sale because of that.  It was my first time at this show so I can't compare sales to last year.  My neighbors did less than last year but were ok with their sales.  Indialantic is a beach town so water related art sold.  I sell colorful jewelry and did ok but next year I will try for another show.

I visited the Indialantic Show for the first time, checking it out for future reference.  I found it to be an exceptional show, both in the quality of the products and the environment.  I'm glad to hear people were buying!  Vicky, I saw your work for the first time and was completely captivated...it is gorgeous and very elegant.

Hey Geoff....Back home in MI after a run of January Florida shows.  We did Indialantic.  It is a Howard Alan show and Helayne runs it.  It was an easy set up and it is a pleasant atmosphere when Helayne is running things.  She was on site at all times, continually walking the show and on Sat. morning providing snacks to all the exhibitors.  It was extremely nice having a Friday night set up.  Sales were better on Sat. then on Sunday.  This is a small show and the sales are not huge by any means but in the end we made a good enough amount of money for the weekend.   Back up in the snow for the next month then back to Florida for a full March schedule!
