Rejected by Crosby Festival of the Arts

So I was rejected this year by the Crosby Festival of the Arts. I don't know why. But that's the fate we are in. So, I'm here in La Porte, Indiana getting ready for Artigras! in New Buffalo, Michigan. My tent is up. So this is a new fair for me. So I'm am getting excited to be on new turf. This means my work will be judged by a new set of people. Yes, I will apply to Crosby next year. But this is the hand that was given to me. 2013 was my very first ribbon from Crosby. So I'm excited to meet the new people of Artigras!

  • Sorry about your show in Michigan. My Show, Spotlights Market, in Rochester, MI has had to move since the city is building a 3 story parking garage in the middle of our 24 year old juried show.  We have moved to The Village of Rochester Hills, on Walton & Adams.  We are not on grass but in the parking area across from the restaurants in an upscale shopping center.  Since we are on asphalt and really take care of our exhibitors love coming to our show.  Hopefully, we will not have rain or bad weather as our date has also changed to October 3 & 4.  give us a try.

www.spotlightsmarket.com  Application due date has changed to August 15.

  • Thanks, Lois. I am a great planner and follow-througher, but you are so right, things happen for which we must be grateful. Thanks for the reminder.

  • And yes Lois it was a blessing!
  • My medium is photography.
  • Given the weather ... it seems that your rejection was a blessing. Given your good sales at the alternative show ... God had a plan for you ... it just was not the one you had for yourself. Let God guide you ... too often He has to kick me in the butt to get me to listen.

  • I would love it if people would include in their posts just what their medium is.

There are so many of you that I don't know, and I'm not always given a clue.

  • I've been a Crosby particiapnt for over 10 years now.  Crosby usually has over 40% or more turnover in artists every year...don't know why....either don't apply back or get juried out??  Many of my past art Crosby friends were not at the show this year.  For their 50th anniversary they put down the number of years you were a show participant on your booth sign.  The majority in my area were first time exhibitors.  There was a lack of the higher end items in the show this year.  Many of the prize winners were also previous show winners.  Needless to say the rain on Saturday (usually your money making day) was washed out.  Despite a good crowd on Sunday, sales never did catch back up.

  • Way to go, Scott! Hope the rest of the weekend was good for you. There was so much rain in here in south central Michigan on Saturday (and of course in Toledo and Ft. Wayne as noted by others), that its great to hear that maybe it wasn't raining in New Buffalo, there on Lake Michigan. The organizers of this event advertised with me this year (run by the Chamber I believe). It is a great neighborhood of second homes, lots of Chicagoans, with fat pockets roaming near.

  • Hoping you had a good week-end, Scott...it rained here in SE Michigan all day saturday but yesterday (sunday) was beautiful, sure hope it was nice there as well and that you had a successful show.

  • Today is clear, bright, cool, and starting off a little slow but showing promise.
