Holes in my Trimline

Hi all,

I did a few small shows a couple of years ago and became very discouraged.  They were "Wine, Food, Music, Antique Car and Art Shows".  I found out all of you were right, the visitor's priorities were in that same order.  I packed up my Trimline and have been rethinking my approach.  I got in a good show happening this weekend.  I did a practice run on putting the tent up and discovered a zipper had bitten the roof just above the wall line.  There is now a short row of mini-skylights in the fabric.  8869142283?profile=originalI was going to pursue this issue after the fair but now there is a "slight chance of showers" Saturday night & Sunday.  Anybody have any quick fixes that could work for the long term too?

Thanks.  Hope everyone has a good weekend!

Bernie

  • Thank you one & all.  First off, my booth stayed dry.  The little rain that was in the area that weekend missed the park we were in.  I worried that adhesive residue from tape might compromise both the long term fix and the visual appearance of the tent.  My short term solution was to slip a sheet of card stock, in a plastic page protector, between the top horizontal pipe and the roof/wall material in the hopes that any leaking rain would be directed down the inside of the exterior wall and stay away from my mesh panels.  My long term solution is in the mail, coming from the good folks at Flourish.  They are sending squares of both skylight material (which they and Joanne recommend I use) & vinyl.  I ordered the adhesive from them.  Total cost with shipping = $13.50

As a side note - This art fair was by far my best yet.  I am already looking forward to next year.  Again, thank you all for being here and the help and encouragement you provide.

  • Good suggestions, all...especially that Flourish could provide a longer-term solution.
I will add only that the clear tape solution doesn't work as a long-term fix because, over time, dirt will find its way under the tape edges so your "fix" will be quite visible.

  • A lot of good ideas and suggestions but since your concern is for this weekend you should go to a Lowes or Home Depot and get a roll of clear Gorilla tape. I have not used it on my tent but have used it on several other repairs and it holds extremely strong and is only about $6 for a roll

  • Contact the Flourish company and explain your situation along with approximate dimensions. They will send you a piece of the "skylight" material from the canopy. Go to a place that sells swimming pools to get the adhesive (works under water).

  • we used strapping tape at one show and it held up even in the wind..

  • I'm cringing... I would order a 1/2 yd of 600 denier coated Cordura nylon and patch the area. But I sew for a living.

  • Mine is the answer that causes everyone to cringe, but it is a quick fix that will at least get you through the show... Duck Tape - they make a clear duck tape that is available at most retailers. The adhesive isn't as nasty as the silver, it holds well and since it is clear-ish won't stand out. Another option, if it is even available anymore could be the old vinyl repair kit. The epoxy type that used to be available for patching car seats and dashboards.
