Joann,
Thank You for your info about the shows.

I have done this show every year but the first year and can say that it is a moderate show, not great attendance, sales now are much less that before.
I built up my sales from $2000 the first year to almost $7000 the 4th year and then it has declined every year since then to about $3000 last year. The commission is 15% or 18%.
I make handmade leather purses on the slightly higher side, average sale $200. I always use my mailing list and have built up a regular clientele. Mostly asking for a discount.
Dianne and her crew are very accommodating; it is well run and they are around to help you out. The attendees are older folks who are retired and some people who like taking the trip to the Palm Springs area.
The first show of the year in that area is the Southwest Arts Festival in Indio, and I feel the same way about them - it is only a moderate show and if you are willing to accept that you will have a very nice time. The only show that really brings in the money is La Quinta and I am not wanting to give 20% nor do I have enough inventory to consider it. I work alone and some of the exhibitors have lots of inventory and do many shows.
It has been getting harder every year for these 3 shows and the one that gets the prize is LaQuinta. JoAnn Page
Every year I have the same dilemma - I usually do Southwest and Indian Well but this year I may not.
I am debating to do the show this year although I live in 2 hours away.
Do any artists here attend that event and can vouch for the sales? The Southwest art festival and La Quinta are both in the same neighborhood as Indian Wells right?
A few years ago I was in Palm Springs when I noticed that this event was taking place. Needless to say the whole family got to attend ;) I'd never been to a show like this before. In an amazing setting with the mountains in the background, and astonishingly when we drove up, there was valet parking! Never saw that at a show before. Some pretty nice cars in the parking lot and the quality was very good. Saw a few old friends who were as surprised to see me as I was them, Sally Bright from Fenton, MI, and Amos Amit from LA, and Sandy Gold who I first met on this website.
